Chrome Vs. Buy analysis is what I was doing at office today Yes, I agree, instead of chroming it is better to buy the parts, especially considering the rates I am quoted. Now I am not thinking of painting anything at all except the chassis. I anyway have tank+shields. Rest of the stuff like chain case cover, engine covers can be bought. May work out marginally higher but atleast those will be brand new parts compared to the rust mahal of a bike it now is. No local jobs though. I thought long and hard about this re-build and going ahead with full conviction. Rs.7000/- wont take me anywhere.

I'd suggest you to replace all the chrome parts like Original rims, chrome spokes, chrome nuts, new front mudguard etc.[ maybe except for the grab rail] . They'll cost less than what the bugger asked for plating. Get a complete rubber kit. [replaces ALL the rubber parts on the bike] , new oil seals, bearings, cables, Complete nut-bolt kit, cone set. All this should cost you about 6k . [incl. chrome parts]

DTW is known for their top quality paint job so no worries there. Ashok checked and told me Vijaydeep is back in action so again you dont have to worry about the engine work.
All in all you can make it look and run like new for about 14k -20k max depending on the parts purchased. Let me know if i can help you out with anything.
Thank You Yamdoot (Nitesh rite?) From the initial analysis I did in office today, I would need about 25k to get it back in showroom condition. This is including cylinder kit, crankshaft assembly and all the other money eating parts replacement. Problem is labour is expensive. Rs.5000 for stripping the chassis and assembling it back

Yup. I agree on replacing all the cables, bolts, seals and bearings part. Already have mudguard with me. But won't be able to finish this one off in 15K inspite of having quite a few things in stock already.

I would get in touch with you if I need help in sourcing any part.

Looks like the 2stroke bug has bitten you again, throw the Honda CBR250 plans out of the window, not worth it !!!

My 2 cents

Thanks Arvind. I am going tomorrow for paperwork. Planning to get KA plates though it would turn out expensive compared to paying tax and leaving it at that.

Well, what do I say about 2stroke bug. Bitch is seductive Its all trouble but still you want it. CBR hmm..not yet throwing out the plans. Let me see how this one turns out. God willing, I might buy a CBR or a ZMA.

I need all the advise I can possibly get. Because last re-build as the thread title suggested was cosmetic. The bike was maintained well (many thanks to my dad) and had no major work. This one is a different ball game altogether.

Thank You dual disc (Ram?) I've been watching your re-build thread quitely (damn I can't get the spelling rite) and I am sure you will be able to give me good tips on this re-build.

The first thing I did after coming back from office today was getting a PUC. It passedCO is 00.152(% Vol) and HC is 00529 (PPM). Testing center guy was surprised.

More importantly, I experienced the famed low-end throttle response of a 4Speed in this first 10km round trip. It is nothing like the 100. Rock-back-in-your-seat kind of torque. But doesn't seem to be too rev happy. beyond 1/4 throttle it feels very reluctant and rough. This is were I need help. I don't know if I need to get an engine job done for this. There seems to be no unusual noise, gearshifts are alrite for an RX, acceleration also seemed ok didnt notice anything abnormal. Should I just re-build the engine also? Once the engine is opened she is no more a virgin u see

Undecided about that. To put it in a polished way, 'I have an open mind' on this issue.

good luck on your rebuild.....

By the way, 5k to strip and assemble it back is too expensive. for my rebuild, I paid below 2k, of course that was more than a year back but still 5k is too expensive.

If you can manage all with 25k then its GREAT!, all the best.

Whats there to paint or chrome? Post high res pics, i can see only thumbnails.

Regarding the tank, post up high res pics. I was in the same predicament with the RXZ, finally didnt get it painted. Some elbow grease and all panted panels looked like new.

Same can be done with chrome as well. I had a rustbucket RX silencer on which I managed to get rid of all rust and make it look as good as new.

Those were my initial thoughts. Especially Chrome. There is hardly anything to be chromed and 5.5k for it is ridiculous. I am not inclined for going for chroming at all.

I am not sure how to post high res pics. there is a size of 97KB Let me try
