Only part I'd worry are the fork tubes. Rust on them isnt good and it cant be fixed. Handle, swap it out. Rest done bother.

Look at the tank I have with me. Took an hour of work yesterday night to bring it to this state. Should get couple of more products and make it a mirror

Focus on the portion below the tank cap. Havent worked fully above it.

Thats good work SunnyBoi. Please share the tips and tricks with rest of too. I can work on the old tanks myself and keep it as a spare. I don't see any rusting in the 'Before' pics though. Also, how would you manage places were paint has peeled off?

Thank you! Need that for both my RXs and would be very grateful for the help.

Paid lifetime tax today. Rs.2490. Next steps:-

1. Motor Vehicle Inspector verifies the chassis number and forwards the file with his approval.
2. RTO, Yelahanka will correspond with RTO, Bhubhaneswar for confirming the NOC issued by RTO, Bhubhaneswar.
3.We get KA number.

Between 2 & 3 there is some running around and standing in queue and paying some money (legal), which is not clear at the moment.

Sailed through today with NO bribe being paid.

Step1 will be completed between next Monday and Friday. After that I think it is a 30 days wait. Atleast thats the writing on the wall, quite literally on the 2nd floor of the RTO building.

No issues with the legality of the bike though. Already lifetime tax is paid.

Now coming back to the bike. Rode it to the garage and back home. There seems to be a slight bore noise when you raise the throttle and listen attentively. Beyond 1/4 throttle no juice. DTW guy clearly advised me to replace the tank looking at the amount of rust on it. Thankfully I do have tank with me.

I need help in knowing the cost of ALL nuts and bolts for the bike. How much would brand new cost? And where do I buy them? Do I have to sift through parts catalogue and buy each nut and bolt individually or is there something like a bolt kit available Not too keen on getting any chrome job done at all looking at the rates. After much deliberation rims and nuts/bolts is what remained for chroming. I am thinking of replacing these also with brand new. Rims I think would cost me 1100 a pair?

Targeting to start the work on 9/10 and finish by 10/3. Assuming some chrome work would be involved. Else this whole thing would wrap up approx in two weeks.

apart from 2490/- what are the other costs involved in getting it registered here?

for ALL nuts and bolts, I don't think you can buy as a kit. If available, I would be interested in buying one.
about rims, I payed 955/- for both rims and spokes.

Actually there is no other cost involved. Rs120 for change of address and Rs.60 for re-registration. Thats it.

Glad to know that your dad didnt sell off the bike there and brought it back home instead!

Now, the rx is such a small and simple bike that there isnt much work involved in fixing it up.
*Painting should be no more than 5.5k(metallic for tank and side panels, gloss black for the chassis including the swing-arm and triple T, aspa silver(your choice of silver) for the engine casings, fork bottoms, hubs etc.
*As others have already suggested, get new rims, spokes with nipples, handlebar, kicker, petrol tank cap etc. These will work out to around 2-2.5k in total.
*Around 2-3k for labour.
*3.5-4k for both tyres (if needed)
*2K for misc parts like packings, manifold, nuts/botls/screws/clips, grips, wiring, lenses, liners, bushes etc etc.
*Keep around 4k extra over and above all this as things keeps cropping up! Dont worry as this is just a cushion and you might never need to use it!

Now coming to the engine, does it really need work? Just check compression. if its good, chuck in some good 2T oil and forget about the rest unless the crank is making a racket and has float. Dont open the engine unless its needed! As someone rightly said, if it isnt broken, dont fix it! Check timings and jetting!

Last and not the least, i absolutely love the thread title! LOL

P.S. the prices are just ball park figures. In my case i didnt have to pay for labour for any of the bikes i rebuilt and got parts at discounted rates.

^ Dad bought an RX because I requested for it. Else he had almost booked an Access. So no question of selling it.

5.5K for all the parts you have mentioned seems impossible. Asked two good garages of repute and good the same quote, whch is 8.5k. Anyways, I decided not to get tank and side panels painted. For rest of the stuff he has given me a quote which works out cheaper than replacement. To that extent I am satisfied I prefer not to experiment with too many people and get worried. With DTW, I know paint quality is good. My 100 is still looking good even after 2yrs.

There are other money eating parts like speedo unit, pilot lamp assembly, indicators, rear brake lamp assembly, etc which will cost much more than 2.5k (along with rims, bolt kit, cables, brake shoes, etc)

As of now, dark area for me is the bolt/nut/fasteners 'kit'. At the end of the build I will post the list of parts I've replaced.

Not replacing the tyres immediately. Will do it few days after. Let me not suffer too much from Vitamin M deficiency

Yes, compression I need to get it checked. Will do it next Saturday. My inclination is also not to fiddle with the engine if thats not required.

Parts at discounted rates People pay double the rates for RX parts. I pay MRP. But yes, I do know of another gentleman who gets it at discounted rates

Thanks for your words on the thread title
