Talking Tooti phuti 2T beauty-RX135 4 Speed - Now Restored!!!

Finally it is here! Yamaha RX-135 4 Speed December 2001 model. My dad bought this bike around two years back for a grand sum of Rs.14000/- It has a comprehensive (did I spell it right?) insurance

This bike is the only good thing that has happened due to my dad's transfer to Puri from Bengaluru 2.5 years back. Now he is transferred back and the bike came home few hours back. Indian Railways did a fair job of transporting it from Puri to Bengaluru at a reasonable cost of Rs.1200/- + Rs.520 as demurrage as the bike could not be collected by us within 48 hrs.

After lot of thinking, I finally decided to restore it. However, paper work 1st. The bike is registered in Bhubhaneshwar. So this needs to be registered in Bengaluru. Dad and me will go this Saturday to the RTO. I am hoping for an early closure of paper work.

I spoke to DAM motors today for a quote on painting. His reply was Rs.8500 for painting and Rs.4500 for Chrome plating. 45-50 days to complete the work. Needless to say, this I thought was a rude way of saying NO to a prospective customer. I think I will stick to DTW. Besides, this bike needs extensive engine and cycle parts attention also.

Rode for 200 mtrs. At the outset, front brake needs attention, wheel truing, cone and cup kit are some of the other areas which needs to be taken care of. Current state of the bike does not inspire much confidence to ride in traffic.

On the positive side, does not seem to have any unusual noise from the bore and no gasket (especially silencer gasket) seems to be leaking.

Memebers feel free to chip in with your comments.

Some snaps of the tooti phuti 2T beauty. You can see that the tank is rusted. But from the inside it does not have any rust at all!

Now that I am enlightened about posting the pics let me treat your eyes with some high res pics

I also bought yamaha rx135 in some what same condition as yours & spend about 7000rs,(painting & sevicing+part replacement) on it to make look good & run smoothly.you can get it painted from any local denting & painting center for around 2500-3000 rs. & about chrome plating the parts i would suggest to replace it with new one of good quality 'coz chrome plating if not made proper it may rust.

@ Nitin , Long time man! nice to see you back. Nice bike. The engine seems to be in a good condition from outside as you said. Since you had built a RX100 some time back you wouldnt be needing much advices.

I'd suggest you to replace all the chrome parts like Original rims, chrome spokes, chrome nuts, new front mudguard etc.[ maybe except for the grab rail] . They'll cost less than what the bugger asked for plating. Get a complete rubber kit. [replaces ALL the rubber parts on the bike] , new oil seals, bearings, cables, Complete nut-bolt kit, cone set. All this should cost you about 6k . [incl. chrome parts]

DTW is known for their top quality paint job so no worries there. Ashok checked and told me Vijaydeep is back in action so again you dont have to worry about the engine work.
All in all you can make it look and run like new for about 14k -20k max depending on the parts purchased. Let me know if i can help you out with anything.

anna avaru ge namaskara

thats one sweet bike for restoration, good luck with things man.get the paper work done first & then start work.

Looks like the 2stroke bug has bitten you again, throw the Honda CBR250 plans out of the window, not worth it !!!

My 2 cents

I really enjoy the sound of 2-strokes idling. I love the uncertainty of it
