Default Yamaha RX135 5-Speed Modification : By Energy Induction

It all started back in 2004, when i met this Guy during our PG Days. I already had 2 RX135s then & this guy after test riding my baby wanted nothing else except an RX. He had a KB100 before, but upgrading to an RX was a dream come true for him.

Took him to Yamaha Showroom & since the dealer knew me pretty well, he said he can offer us the below bikes:

    1. RX135 4-Speed With Crux Like Meters + Small Cat-Con Exhuast + 5-Speed Like Clutch & Magnet Covers with smaller 2T oil pump.
    2. RX-Z 5-Speed (Yes it is true, we were offered Brand New RX-Z which was to be sold in Black)

The asking price for an RX-Z was too much & my friend was not too keen on buying an RX-Z for all the Bling-Bling factor associated with it. So we went ahead & bought Black Colour RX135 4-Speed. Since most of you already know, the latest RX135 4-Speed came with RX100 type Tank & Shield Sticker Designs, hence my friend wanted a stock RX135 look. Here is what we did even before we took delivery from showroom:

    1. Brand New Classic RX135 Tank + Shield in Exchange of what came in bike.
    2. Brand New 5-Speed Cylinder Kit (4TL10) in Exchange of what came in bike.
    3. New 16" Rims & MRF "Moto D" 3.25 x 16 in rear in Exchange of what came in bike.
    4. New Big Cat-Con Exhaust in Exhange of what came in bike.

Fast forward 8Yrs & even till date the bike is running on the same setup, yes even the tyres are still the same. So now finally my friend decided to overhaul his bike, especially the engine part. Knowing his crave for Higher Power, i formulated a solution for him, after thorough discussion.

Below is the brief list of Items that will go into his bike, which when completed will be one of a kind:

    1. 5-Speed Bore Kit (4TL10) Rebored to 1st Oversize (58.25mm) with "4Y201 ART" Piston and ported to Stage 3 specs at the moment. (Currently the bike is running with stock 4TL10 kit with STD piston, the same will be rebored & kept as spare)
    2. 4-Speed Head (Exisiting) suitably modified to get the right compression.
    3. Energy Induction Spec 90/100W Ignition Kit with Philips Rally 90/100W Bulb, NGK Iridium Plug & Water Proof Plug Adaptor.
    4. Energy Induction Spec Expansion Chamber.
    5. New CrankShaft with Imported "4Y2" ConnectingRod having Silver B.E Bearing. (Un-Used "2YA" Connecting Rod with Imported Copper B.E Bearing is for sale, interested may send us enquires)
    6. RX-King Clutch Plates (Set of 6)
    7. YZ125 Clutch Springs
    8. RX-King "KOYO" Engine Bearing (Set of 2)
    9. Front End including Disc assembly of Yamaha Gladiator
    10. New 18" Union Cycle Rims for Rear.
    11. New Tyres : Front ---> IRC / CEAT / MICHELIN
      Rear ----> MICHELIN
    12. Mikuni TM24 Flatslide Carburettor (will be procured shortly)
    13. Original 5-Speed Clutch & Magnet Covers Incorporating Big 2T Oil Pump. (5-Speed Lookalike Clutch & Magnet Covers Incoporating Small 2T Oil Pump is for sale, interested may send us enquires)
    14. RX-King Close-Ratio 5-Speed GearBox.
    15. 16T/36T Sproketing

As with every build, there is a motive & in this case it is about really quick acceleration. We will be putting this bike to test along side my Modified Esteem & Chethan's Modified VTEC for quarter mile timings.

The friend i am referring here is none other than Ashwin (xbhp id : iamdstig) & i will leave you guys with a teaser pic for now.

    With Regards,
    Karthik

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

The teaser pic is looking good.
Its good to see that people moving away from the regular cosmetic mods and getting the real deal done. Keep us posted and as always best wishes for the project.

BTW, the below 2 pointers were getting me confused. Obviously the stock clutch bell would be changed to accommodate 6 plates, but why?

    1. RX-King Clutch Plates (Set of 6)
    2. YZ125 Clutch Springs

Also please spare the bike on the quarter mile.

@Karthik - RX135 badge says it all. All the best for your project.

    1. 5-Speed Bore Kit (4TL10) Rebored to 1st Oversize (58.25mm) with "4Y201 ART" Piston and ported to Stage 3 specs at the moment. (Currently the bike is running with stock 4TL10 kit with STD piston, the same will be rebored & kept as spare)
Reboring the currently bore to 1st O/S and porting would have done the requirement instead of another cylinder kit? Just my thoughts.

First of all, even before I get started I would like to thank my buddy Karthik and Energy Induction, which incidentally both of us are managing.
Here I am, with the bike and asked Karthik "Maga (Bhai!), lets work on my bike and make it the best out here".

It was easy peasy and we started getting the specs ready. That was when, we became insanely serious about deriving some serious power.

Karthik knows me as a guy who can handle enormous amounts of power and also I weigh on the higher side of an average Indian male . So we were targeting at Stage-3 porting from the word go.

The bottom half of the engine was where most of the work was needed and as mentioned below, nothing is left out. The most difficult one of all was to source the RX-King Gearbox and we could eventually (low mileage one of course!!).

@asif Karthik can shed more light, since even I was apprehensive about that.

@SriramEfunds, the one on my bike had already run its life on stock. I had another 5 speed bore at my end which was already re-bored and sandblasted, decided to use it. This bore, once re-bored will be packed in airtight box and it goes into my cupboard of spares.

The build that is going into my engine will remain rock solid for the next 20-30K kms. After that, at the most a re-bore is required. Else, its as dependable as it can get.

The build is taking very good shape. Everything is going as per our plan except for the TM24 carburettor delivery. We are still waiting for it. Clicked some pics taken over a period of last 2 weeks or so. Enjoy!!!!!!

Was curious to know why the 6 clutch plates. Is it because this would it make gear shift and power delivery any better?

Asif, an RX135 comes standard with 6 clutch plates (Friction Plates), whereas an RX100 comes standard with 5 clutch plates. We are using that of RX-King which happens to be the original 135cc RX which was launched back in 80's in SE Asian countries. Hope this clarifies.
