HI Rajnish, Great job man. I didn't knew that Yamaha had so many RD models.
![]() Sad to see ZMA vs DTSi quarrel go on for 19 pages but none of the topic on RD 350 go for more than 3 pages. Its a shame for all of us (XBHPIANS). We should always respect RD 350 as it was (is and remain for a lng time) king of all performance bikes in India. I dont know why Escorts stopped the production of RD 350. Any body have any clue? I want to know the cause.

LOL the main reason was the new crop of the economiser commuters which came at that time.then was high maintainence and poor after sale service.then was tht guys flipped off the bike when they opened the throttel, the front just flipped.this happened to almost all cops which had it.
the fact of the matter is-the RD still remains one of the most liked bikes the world over, testimony are the number of websites the bike has dedicated to it.and the number of fourms it has.yes there are almost no bikes in stock condition.a stock HT kicks the ass as soon as it enters the powerband and you get scared, the LT simply pulls ur arms and flips u over as soon as u whack the throttel.

But still today also that concept(80KMPL) remains, but people still buy ZMA,DTSi, F2, etc underpowered compared to the legendary RD. I want to know the exact cause. Bullet was there in that perion and still it remains with the same old 346 CC engine
BTW is it possible to assemble a RD 350 (getting a new RD 350 engine and use the chasis of a Bullet)

hi tanmay yes the concept remains 2day also but 2day the purchasing power has gone up & so have the vehicle/pollution norms which prohibit (or shall i say discourage) 2 stroke technologies.. enfield was four stroke from the very begining & has therefore survived the change..
As abt y dont people discuss abt the RD[?] the reason is simple none of us have any doubts abt the capabilities of an Rd[ ] everyone accepts its supreme power & deeply respects it while in the ZMA vs DTSi thread people hv difference of opinion

The RD350 is an icon in bikes. It is one of the true all time great bikes with a stupendous racing record in the 70's.
I have personally owned 2 of them an RD350 and a RZ400.The bikes were great and I am sure any RD fan swears by his bike. Most of them if well tuned(unrestricted versions) can give most 600's(In line fours) a run for their moneyy on a 0-60 drag. The reasons for shut down according to me were . 1. Escorts did not have the right service infrastructure in place 2. No investment in the model for upgrades 3. Expensive buy in its time 4. Expensive parts 5. Maintainance. It was not a fill it shut it and forget it bike. The Points and timing needed adjustment every 2 weeks till the CDI version came along. The ignition coils had a tendencyy to burn out.950/- bucks each in 1990. 6. Fear:It got the nick name Yamdoot as most people comming off a bullet or Yezdi would sit on it and twist the throttle like they were used to and rest was history. The jump in power from the bikes then to an RD was a killer. You had to learn to squeeze the throttle open if you did not want to wheelie. All in all it was a great experience , but at a cost. I remember when I bought my first car I found it cheaper to run and maintain than my bike.I love RD's and still find the bike one of the best I have ever ridden.

Here in Chandigarh RD is a status symbol among young generation who ever is riding a bike. Although there are not much RD's in Chandigarh but who so ever has this bike is maintaining it well. Now a days the trend of RD is on rise here. Within last one week i have seen atleast 10 RD's in brand new condition.
They look awesome. Hey Rajnish were i can find the original coils for my RD in Delhi & how much will they cost.
