@sarvajit, i think the RX135 4S and even the RXZ 4S is a good bet for anyone.. RXZ body panels are not very difficult to get except for the fairing and cowl.. look for a bike which has both.. rest of the stuff is more or less common for both.. the fairing glass[acrylic],tail lamp is available too.. so not very difficult to restore a RXZ 4s..u cud add a 5speed gearbox, 5speed sticering and a gladiator front with disc to complete the look!
Thanks buddy, I'll keeo both your inputs in mind&start saving&looking out for a good bike!

Thanks a lot for your informative post JD!
If I do decide, I will stay away from the RXG&RXZ, though the Z is very tempting.
What I wanted to ask you again, was:
It seems like there were a lot of engine changes in RX135
1st was 4 speed with 12.5 bhp
then was 5 speed with 14.5 bhp 2001-2002 model
then finally it again became 12.5 bhp in 2003 with the catcon?

- yes you are right about the series.

Target a 14.5 bhp rx135 if the block is in good condition ( running maybe first or second oversize ). One oversize should ideally last atleast 30,000 kms, and you can go till 4 oversizes, more if you go with atul_astro's modding skills.

So, shall I target the RX135 4 speeder?

-An easy build to go for, again the engine block is the main issue.

Also, what do you think of this news?
Yamaha RX100 spares to make a comeback, not the bike! - Motoroids.com
Will this apply to all the RX series or only RX100?

A lot of parts are common to both RXs, so no worries there. I can get you tanks and side panels for the RX100,135, 135 5 speed etc.

My friend tells me RX135 spares are available in OEM itself, can some other owners shed any light on this?

Spares are available, and i am also trying to get my hands on some 5 speed bores from japan thru some people in singapore.. lets see.

Spot on yamdoot & jd666.

RX100 & RX135 4S are easier to source, both the bike & spares.

Though, I have not ridden a 5S, but it is widely regarded as the best performer in the RX series. However, parts difficult to find

So you decide

When how ?? you mean to say that yamaha released the 5 speed z with 4 speed blocks, its 4TL00 for 4 speed 4TL10 for 5 speed. if you have got your bike with the 4 speed bore then you are plain lucky

^^ thanks for the proof reading.. no i meant to say that the RX135 4 speed shares the block with the RXZ 4 speed.

The RXZ 5speed came with the 4TL10 block iirc. Though i have a 4TL00 block on my bike, and its original according to the owner.. confusion!!

ok, just a small update guys.. the bike was having some probs idling and having a smooth linear powerband.. tried jetting and even a PWK provided by Atul.. didnt make much difference as far as idling issues were concerned. finally handed over the bike to Atul again and he took the topend apart n diagnosed as an airleak at the inlet manifold as it has a bigger inlet with bigger reeds and a reed spacer , it developed an airleak thru the packing.. its kinda trick to properly cut a precise packing. he made the packing and torqued the manifold properly which cured the prob. .. now the bikes running much better n has a good linear power.. waiting for the running in to complete but due to time constraints its really slow.. run only 620 kms till now.. Atul promises a smoother engine and better power around 18 bhp once the run in is over.. will keep updating .

^^ yeah if you have a over optimistic speedo, a stock RX100 will top 140... and its a 6, not a 9.

I have never done that on my Opel Astra 1.6, let alone my stock RX. Tell us the trick dude. May be the gear shifts?
