Default RX 135 4S '98 - Clarification on Carb Jets

Hi All RX Gurus!

I recently changed my carb jets since the previous mechanic did some screw up work that my mileage dropped on the floor.

I took my bike to a renowned garage, there guy advised to change the jets. And that the stock size is 140 for the main jet and 17 for the pilot jet.

When I was asked buy the 140 size Main jet he had also asked me to purchase 165 size main jet. I wonder why? However, the bike currently rides on 140 and have kept the other at home.

I currently experience significant increase in the mileage and also the engine musics to my ears.

I know that increase in the main jet size would actually mean more fuel intake and that would result in better power/pickup.

Can someone throw light on the correlation on the mileage loss by doing so?

Currently I'm enjoying good 35+ mileage.

Now, I am little tempted on the power.( though I cried for getting the mileage of 15kmpl earlier).

The engine now looks like tuned to give mileage, however, if by running on 165 jet size, should there be very little compromise on the mileage would be eager to install.

Kindly let me know on this.

Which Rx do u own ????

Rx100- 115 main jet. 15 pilots.
Rx 135- 165 main jet. 17.5 pilots.
Rx135 5 speed-135 mains. 17.5 pilots.

these are stock jets from yamaha, the most wierdest mod i have seen is mechs plonking rx-100 jets for rx-135 4speed for phulll mileage, but down the line your liner will be gifted with some scarthes, coz of running lean.

this is the best mod for guyz who are looking out for phullll mileage on an RX.

Thank you Psycho 98!

I will have the main jet changed to 165 soon.

I wanted to ask.. why 135 5S main and pilot jets sizes are small compared to the other? Any specific reason?

If that is the case, won't that be running lean?

I'm just curious to know thats all.

Running with 140 size main jet would that be harmful for city ride? I occasionally rip my bike. Basically believe in keeping my RX for a long time. Should that be it, then I also need to keep my bike in condition and to reduce wear and tear of parts. Let me know.

5 speed also has a different carb from the 4 speed.
Different needle with a VERY radical profile.
Different emulsion tube as well.

The main jets are not the function of the engine alone, there are quite a few other things.
Emulsion tube
Jet Needles
Air jets
Air jet entry and exit orifices
Slide cutaway
Bore shape
are just a few that come to my mind at 4 am.
