Default Superbike at Khardung La!

xBhp creates history!

July the 7th 2010, 1500 hrs. A cloudy afternoon when xBhp made history. A light snowfall greeted the rider and the bike at Khardungla top, the hightest motorable road in the world at 18380 ft. above MSL. xBhp rider Sandeep ‘Old Fox’ Goswami rode a 1250cc Suzuki Bandit 1250s all the way from Delhi to Leh via Manali and further to Khardung La top, a feat not yet accomplished by any Indian. Our team is the first to take a 1000cc+ SBK to the highest motorable road in the world. Supporting him in this endeavour were Praveer Kochhar (a noted Graphic Designer and Videographer), Mr. Ashok Kochhar (a renowned Photographer) and Imran ‘B2L’ Mohammad a long time xBhp member, a very able motorcyclist as the back-up rider.

The rider and his team had to endure riding through terrible roads and weather through 5 notorious Himalayan passes (Rohtang La, Baralachala, Naki La, Lachung La and Tanglang La) in continous rain and through snow at heights. The Bandit was ridden through almost 400 kms of slushy, slippery and broken roads, at times in freezing sub zero temperature to make it to Leh from Manali. As if the gods had not had enough with us, the weather turned nasty even at Leh, with 3” of snow reported at K-Top on the 7th morning. Thankfully by the time we got the permits and reached the top, intermittent sun and two convoys had cleared the road. A 260 kilo, 105 bhp superbike shod with tarmac tires is already a mean handful in slush and adding snow to the equation would have made the ride downright life-threatening as it was for awhile at Tanglang La a day before.

This is just a preview of what it was all about. There’s a lot more to follow with first-hand experiences, amazing pictures and some dramatic videos. The thread is being posted today as all i-net connections have been down in entire Leh since yesterday.

Holy Mother!!
Now this is what I am talking about!

Hearty congratulations to the team who has achieved something which we always thought was impossible.

Good going OF Sir. I think you have solved the debate that whether a SBK can reach leh once in for all.

Proud to be an Xbhpian!!
