Smile GQ? GQ.. GQ! Done. [R15 / 6166kms / 14 days]

Route: Golden Quadrilateral

The map was there on my tank bag all through the trip.. it kept me going!

When: 26th Dec 2010 - 8th Jan 2011

With: My beloved R15. Had a friend's company till Banglore, rest solo.

Why: Had applied for a 2 weeks holiday, needed some time off work. Nothing better to do.

Detailed route:
START
Day 1: Mumbai – Bangalore 1,020kms / 18hrs
Day 2: Bangalore
Day 3: Bangalore
Day 4: Bangalore – Chennai 330kms / 5hrs
Day 5: Chennai – Visakhapatnam 838kms / 13hrs
Day 6: Visakhapatnam – Humma – Chilka Lake – Puri 415kms / 12hrs!
Day 7: Puri – Bhubaneshwar – Cuttack – Kolkata 500kms / 8hrs
Day 8: Kolkata – Varanasi 700kms / 12hrs
Day 9: Varanasi – Kanpur – Agra – Delhi 810kms / 12hrs
Day 10: Delhi
Day 11: Delhi
Day 12: Delhi – Jaipur – Ajmer – Beawer 430kms / 7hrs
Day 13: Beawer – Udaipur 230kms / 4hrs
Day 14: Udaipur – Ahmedabad –Vadodara – Surat – Mumbai 780kms / 13hrs
END

Day 1: Mumbai – Bangalore 1,020kms / 18hrs

Started from home (Powai) at 5am with a friend (same black R15), breakfast at McD after Pune, evening stop at 6pm before Chitradurga. Landed at friends place (Kormangla) around 11pm.

Highlights of the day:
- Maximum covered in a day.
- Witnessed a 5-storey high whirlwind.
- Saw wind-mills for the first time.
- Saw wind-mill blades being transported, they are huge!!

The whirlwind calms down...!

The blade in comparison to a car and a bike...

Day 2: Bangalore
Day 3: Bangalore

My chain was screwed. The Yamaha SVC at Kormangla said the chain-set's life is over, needs a replacement. I'll need to keep adjusting the chain to finish the balance 5000kms. Fine, will do.

Had I lazed one more day in Bangalore, my new year would be there. So I decided to move ahead to Chennai. My friend left for Mumbai as he had to be home for new year's. From here started my solo journey.

Day 4: Bangalore – Chennai 330kms / 5hrs

Initial plan was to meet my friend in Chennai and carry on and stop somewhere after Nellore, but my friend insisted I should stay for the night in Chennai with him. So I had to do some extra kms next day to reach Vizag.

Highlights of the day:
- Saw the Nokia and Hyundai plant.

Day 5: Chennai – Visakhapatnam 838kms / 13hrs

Left Chennai around 7am. The biggest part of the GQ lies in AP. And it's the worst as well. AP is never-ending, populated, diversions, wrong-sided traffic and boring landscape. The only major town I crossed was Vijaywada. Found Yamaha showroom on the city highway, stopped there for first oil change.

I had promised myself not to ride after dark, but never kept it. Visakhapatnam came around 8pm. Found a hotel near the highway for the night (Rs600).

Highlights of the day:
- The never-ending AP.
- Some political rally all across AP, with buses/trucks/cars displaying C.Naidu flags (they all disappeared after Guntur).

Let me take the privilege to pass my heartiest Congratulations to you first Had I known this trip earlier, I would've helped you cross NH4/NH5 at Chennai as I live close to this place.

So last year it was Leh & this year its GQ. Great achievements!!! Congrats once again & I'll be looking eagerly to read mostly from Vizag & upto Ahmedabad. Keep the flow coming.

@Biru.. don't worry, don't even remotely worry.. i'm not as khaali as you

@MG.. Thanks.. about the text, i'm not much of a blogger. Moreover, Alankar's writing has sucked whatever little vocab was left in me!! But will sure try to re-call all the events from the ride.

@DK... oyeeee! I've started couple of threads before! And yes, I ghostly remember meeting you!

I was missing rubber_stamp_champ's GQ thread (had finished reading it) and now this comes up and you ride the same Motorcycle as me

This GQ has long been eluding me, lets see when do I take the plunge.
