Leshka Dam or Lechka Dam is located in Jaintia Hills District of Meghalaya at about 130kms from Shillong town or about 60-70kms from Jowai town. One can visit Leshka Dam through one of the following routes 1. Dawki-Nongpdeng-Amlarem-Pdengshakhap route or 2. Jowai-Dawki road- Pdengshakhap or the 3. Jowai-Lad Rymbai-Rymbai-Iapmala. However the shortest seems to be the third route which we followed during this trip.
Anyway, the trip started at 10am from Dhankheti with 21 members on 10 bikes and a Honda City driven by our President (Conrad or Lilmc as we know him). The weather was all fine until we reached Laitkor where the drizzle started and kept on till we reached Thadlaskein Orchid Lake Restaurant for breakfast. Monsoon was yet to settle down to give way to autumn, but least unexpected, the weather was worsen with heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning – after all we are riding in one of the wettest state of the earth. The thought that we had already travelled this far and our mind set for the new unexplored destination, off we throttled towards Jowai for whatever comes by. But then, we were continuously blessed by the heavy downpour – poor little ones hiding underneath could also feel the blessing of water . As most of us described, the trip was like a battlefield - Splashes after splashes of water from the incoming vehicles especially trucks; bumping into potholes hidden under the muddy water; the thunder and lightning that sounded like gun fires and canon shots made us to remember God for safety – to an extend that Donald (Dodz) and his wife, Joan fortunately missed the lightning which struck an electric pole close by.The rain stopped after about 30-40kms of the ride, once again the sun took its turn to warm and dry the men and the machine. So we packed our lunch at Lad Rymbai and proceeded towards Rymbai and Leshka Dam. I would admit the road and the landscape from here was superb as compared to most of the places we have ridden in the past few years in Meghalaya. No blind curves, no cliffs on either sides of the road, the smooth and silky tarmac, the green desert with patches of small trees, the clear blue sky with the white clouds visible only at the horizon, those hairpins, view of the waterfalls and dam overshadowed the trouble endured during the 40kms rain-ride. It took us about 4 hours to reach the Dam from Shillong town inclusive of the time spent for food packaging, breakfast, rain ride and short stops to enjoy the scenery. We spent almost 2 hours in an around the Leshka Dam, filling our grumbling stomach with chicken fried rice, some photography and trekking to the waterfall view point and nearby the dam. It was already 5:30pm when we left the spot and climbing through the off-road track was challenging. However, what better to expect than to ride through the open valleys with your partner as pillion enjoying the breathtaking moment through the yellowish orange sunset view to the left and the bright full moon to the right. Sigh! Unfortunately, we could not capture any photos of the sunset views and the moon. Maybe next time....even sooner, for I know we need a revisit... perhaps a one night camping-cum-biking-cum-fishing trip should suffice. A very big Thanks to Joseph Tlang for guiding us to this beautiful place, the members who made the trip worthwhile and Benny & Nandu for capturing majority of the pics. Safe Ride! some of the pics ... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() More pics coming up.

Thanks guys for making the trip memorable.
Lets see, might be heading again this first week of October for a second trip. perhaps one full round from shillong to Leshka and back via jowai and dawki . I am just waiting for updates from Joseph regarding the camping & fishing possibilities near Leshka.
