Considering a lot of us, like to tour as well as we have a pan India network, figured that we could actually have THE most comprehensive road status in India for free!
Suggest all the members to do this State wise. This would immensly help people.
We could include important State Highways as well.

NH8 -
Work in Progress uptill 40KMs around Mumbai to Manor for the GQ.
Roads are rideable, but without centre line, some potholes, beyond that the roads are good enough.

NH7 From MP border - Deolapar - Nagpur - Hinganghat - Karanji up to Andhra Pradesh border.

Deolapar to Nagpur its Single lane..not in very good condition.Sudden potholes.

From the few Kms from outer of the Nagpur till Hinganghat till 100 kms before HYD 04 laning work is in progress.So road condition not good.

Dhule to Nagpur,Road condition is decent.Road is bit wider than the single lane.Traffic density is high.

Update About NH-4 till Kolhapur will be provided in a month's time as I will be going to Kolhapur on 1st Nov..ahead to Goa.
If any1 has current info about that road please provide.

NH4 Pune - Kolhapur - KA border towards Belgaum

Pune- Satara

Expect a lot of potholes/patches. And expect some traffic at junctions bifurcating to the towns during day time.

ok.. NH50 Pune-Nasik update as of 22-Oct-2011:

Road till Rajgurunagar toll booth is decent, though the road surface is a bit damaged.

Post toll booth, and the end of 4-lane section, the road surface is extremely bad for about 5-6 km. Post Rajgurunagar town, the road surface improves a bit but still is a bit bumpy till Alephata.

Post Alephata, The road improves to almost flawless when we enter Ahmednagar district. Cruising @130+ (if possible on your bike) is totally do-able all the way till Sangamner town and even after crossing Sangamner onwards till Sinnar.

Post Sinnar, the road surface is good, but it is usually high traffic zone, so speeds of over 60 cannot be safely done.

Point to be noted: ALL of the ghats en route are in impeccable condition with flawless tarmac.

any update post july 2011 on the below mentioned road. i rode on this road in July on a ride to ambaghat and i found it very bad. any improvements since then?

NH3 from Mumbai to Nashik: Good to excellent. Though there are a few diversions.
NH3 just before Nashik and just after Nashik is bad as there is flyover construction work going on.

SH17 from Nashik to Vani is nice. Winding roads and no potholes. Nearly smooth.
SH23 from Vani up till Saputara is riddled with potholes though patch work is on.

Updates as on Aug, 2011.

Chiplun to Poladpur - Very good roads but with sudden potholes in between.
Poladpur to Mahab - Narrow roads with bad to decent road conditions.
