Default Yeva Konkan Aaploch Asa

Ride to Konkan region for some work, some fun and some unfinished business

24th November 2011 to 27th November 2011

Places Visited - Devgad, Kunkeshwar, Malvan, Vengurla, Sawantwadi

Riders -

Viraj - Yamaha R15
Avinash - Pulsar 220

Prologue

"You go to so many places on your bike and talk about planning to visit each corner of India then why don't you ever think of riding to our native??" Simple question by my father was more than enough to boost my braincells..

I checked with my friends (xBHP members) Sachin and Puneet about it and they were on for it as well an old friend Avinash (silent member of xBHP)

September came and Dad had some work for me to take of at our native I saw the calender, September means "Thanks Giving Holiday" for nice long weekend of 4 days.

I called up Sachin, Puneet and Avinash to confirm the dates... Avinash who also works for US firm got the leaves however Sachin and Puneet could not manage it.

So it was me and Avi (read: Avinash) only!!

First thing I always do was to finalize the route and check for road conditions so went on our very own Mumbai g2g thread and wrote a small query how ever the response was not that great... Everyone said NH17 is screwed and we should use NH4...

But how could I miss all the fun on NH17 so after few phone calls and discussion we decided while going we will use NH17 and on way back NH4

Few teasers for now

Long way to go..

The beach ...

Sunset

The food

The History

And a hell of a experience

Day 1

As usual this ride was also going to start after working all night in office for both me and Avi. Lucky for Avi he got a chance to take small nap at office but I was not that fortunate enough.
We decided to start as soon as we finish our shifts in morning at around 4.30 AM however due to workload at office we started around 5.30 Am.

Our first stop was somewhere post Vadkhal to answer the natures call... Also It was sunrise time and Avi wanted to click some snaps..

We decided to take breaks after every 70kms or so and decided to skip breakfast just to keep ourself light and not feel sleepy.

Unlike the comments NH17 was in quite good condition and we were riding in triple digits most of the time and soon were started climbing the Kashedi Ghat... After reaching the top we took some time to click some snaps and get our bodies rehydrate.

The Road was in superb condition and we were enjoying the corners to the fullest.. After crossing Kashedi we stopped somewhere near Borgbarand I as I looked at my cellphone it was 9.30 Am so we had covered good 200 odd kms in 4 hours and Devgad was another 250kms so decided to have some snacks at small roadside hotel.. Where Avi enjoyed some nice Bhajiya and I was trying to get wings with Redbull..

This was a rather long break of around 45 mins so we got back on our bikes started riding again but then the came my worst nightmare... all those comments about NH17 just became real corners were replaced by potholes and butter smooth road was no where to be found our speed dropped from healthy 90-100 kmph to 50-60 kmph..

Next break came near Hathkhamba after riding around 130 kms this was a small break to fuel up our bikes before we continue riding.. It was around 2PM and we had started feeling the fatigue and hunger however we avoided eating and kept drinking water and Redbull..

We got back on road and just after few kms my bike started handling weird and the day got worst from bad... I had a flat tire..

Now for those who don't know i had damaged my rims in recent Ashtvinayak ride was running with tube and to make matter worst we were not able to find a puncture guy who could take the wheel out and fix the puncture..

After getting air filled from 3 such guys and riding 4-5 kms we reached Pali where we found a mechanic and puncture guy on opposite side of road.. After spending 1 hour there we were back on road it was already 4 PM we still had to ride 80 odd kms and the road condition was just not helping at all..

After crossing Rajapur the roads became better and we were again riding in triple digits as the sun was coming down we wanted to reach our destination before dark..

Finally at around 6 o clock we reached Tale Bazar and stopped to buy some stuff before we went to my Home...

After taking a ice cold shower we felt alive and all we wanted to do was to have dinner and go to sleep but my uncles had different plans...

Before my aunt could serve us the dinner my uncles dragged me and Avi to river for fishing

After spending some time at river we returned home with our catch however since it was Thursday we could not enjoy it and had to manage on veg food only...

After chatting for few minutes and discussing next days plan we dozzed off

Ride status Day 1:
Total Distance: 460 kms / Time: 12 hours
