    Default Krishangiri (TN) to KhardungLa (J&K) - 18 days, 10 States, 7000+ kms, 1 Bike, 1 Rider

    Following the Curiosity

I have to follow my curiosity. That's the absolute theme of this Ride. A few weeks back I just tried to get some answer for my curiosity. I have questioned myself that ‘What made me to wander on a bike to many places..?’
'What exactly am I feeling while riding my passion towards motor biking..?’
'What are the factors behind this endless curiosity on biking..?’

Just to find the answer or to know the truth, I have decided to start a ride and just to ride. That’s it.
NO Plans, NO Days, No Dates, No Destinations, NO Doubts.
Just to ride and to follow my curiosity and let see where exactly my curiosity taking me to.

Points to be clear for Long rides:

    1. Good Health (both Me and my Bike)
    2. Safety - Protective Gears
    3. Food & Enough Fund (for fuel J)
    4. Cameras and Lenses (I do Photography as all bikers do J)
    5. Better Consciousness on Riding Skills
    6. Medical Kit
    7. And so on… numbers will go for a long list…

For now I have made myself prepared for at least 10 days ride. I am not sure; it may extend or end in any number of days.

@ Moderators: I request to approve today. So, I can start updating from the start time tomorrow at 6:30 am. Sunday 11th May 2014.

Few Pics Taken while getting ready for the Ride:

And now let the sun and myself goes for a rest today.. from tomorrow, I will be following him :-)

Default Day 1 - Heading to Goa

Thank you @Divya Sharan. @joshi.varun91 Yes, I will be updating this thread day by day as much as possible subject to the Air-tel 3G internet tower availability :-)

Day 1 - Heading to Goa:

Exactly at 6:32 am I got a call from Dr. Nadakumar Sir. Since, I was 15 minutes late to the meeting point at Krishnagiri toll gate. After a quick check on the Bike condition, luggage bags and other stuff got a blessing from my Mom and started the ride. I have identified that front wheel air pressure in not being constant for at least a day, often getting low. There is no puncher and recently I changed the front tyre as well. It could be an alloy issue. My only confidence is I got a foot pump along with me so I am very much independent regard to the AIR and literally I myself seem as independent as AIR now

Usually Dr.Sir will go for a breakfast ride every Sunday morning to McDonald nearby Krishnagiri at Shoolagiri. After a small G2G Dr.Sir went back to Krishnagiri and I am alone now heading towards Bangalore and for today I am going to Goa . Today would be a easy cake of ride since the road condition would be awesome and the climate is cool now near Bangalore though I am expecting a rainy day on the way. We will see.

    Luggage List:

    1. Saddle Bag - Cramster
    2. Tank Bag - Cramster
    3. Vanguard one side camera bag
    4. Laptop bag
    5. Tripod

A Pic taken at McDonald, Shoolagiri:

Default Re: Day 1 - Heading to Goa

    Day 1:

It has become almost 10:30 am while I was crossing Bangalore city since I have visited one of my friend’s new house near Bangalore. Via Mysore nice road while taking deviation to Tumkur road I was thinking ‘Ok, from now it’s going to be new route’ and that moment a guy in a bajaj scooter just took a extreme left to right turn which made to do a panic braking and I though the trip is going to end here then somehow I should thank him also because he just maintained the speed as same throughout the turn which made easy to get escape from the hit. Well with very good kick start of heart rate I have started the new journey in a new route for me.

    Tumkur - Sira - Hiriyur - Chitradurga - Davangere - Haveri – Hubli

This route was so awesome. I should say in some places I felt like a foreign country where all the vehicles going along are in the same speed phase without any hurry and the landscape was eye treat. There is big difference between TN highways and this Tumkur to Hubli highway. That is Greenery View. Seems like in between the distance I have seen 4 rivers with full of water flow and agriculture’s activity was super cool as like olden days I have seen 10 years back in Tamilnadu region. I have seen many Bull cots around the area and jeep with loaded people even on the top of the jeep. Instead of share auto here Jeeps are very popular for local commuting it seems. Regard to climate It was hot day but I didn’t feel hot through my eyes because of the day saver “Polarized UV shade” which made to see the world with cool eye and even I can see the Sun directly.

On the way I have come across two accidents 1. Very bad bike accident and 2. Car accident

Due to curiosity I forgot to have lunch at all and whenever I see the KM distance board I will think to have lunch in next city and once I see the next board for another city again I will change the place to have dinner in next city. Like this I have reached Hubli itself without having lunch. Hubli was the deciding place to take deviation towards Goa and there were,

I have taken a worst decision. I have chosen

Hubli - Kelgeri - Naagalaavi - Kogilageri - Molem - Ponda - Sanquelim, Goa – which is 165 kms from Hubli.

And time was around 6:30 pm. I have pissed off myself by choosing this route. The route was through dense forest and literally it was no man’s land. I started feeling very scary and even though of not to continue that route but I made myself confident and continued. It’s hard around 8:00 pm no one on the road hardly I have seen one or two Lorries for every 5 minutes. Even in some distance slightly I have started to cry because the sound of the insect from forest has become high than the motorcycle engine sound. And another worst worst worst part is road condition. And there is no one on the road to cross check the route distance and destination heading to. I have seen two check posts but again I was afraid to stop there as well since again the police will threaten me regard to the road condition and will increase my % of fear.

For almost 100 kms with tight seating position no relaxation, no pit stop and my phone was vibrating continuously. My friend form Goa called me many times to make sure am I in the right way and it’s already late to the time I have informed him to reach Goa. But you know I was in full fear and didn’t even stop the bike to attend the phone call in the forest road. I though whatever it comes, let cross the forest and go to Goa. Finally the dark place came to an end and I have reached Molem at 9:30 pm. At Molen I called my friend and explained about the horrible experience and got route information the landmarks to reach his home. From Molen it was super road and I kept my ride between 70-80 kmph because of long hour’s frustration due to bad road condition and fear. From now on I never ever take non NH route that too after dark hours. After an Hour I reached my friend’s home and stayed alive and super.

I would say if I would have chosen the same route in the day time. I will the happiest rider to explore the dense forest route and places to shoot photography.
But I missed the landscapes and photography because of late ride to Goa after 6:30 PM.

    Pics of the Day 1:

After reaching, had dinner - Prawns Rava Fry and Rice.

MOD Note: Please do not post pictures of helmetless riders. xBhp promotes safe riding! Thanks.

Default Day 2 & 3 : Control your Nerves on Curves

Now I am in Mumbai: Day 3 – started from Krishnagiri - Goa - Mumbai

Kilometer approximately - 1300 kms so for

On 12th May (Day 2) when I woke up at my friend’s home it was 8:30 am. I and my friend met after 8 years that is after schooling we didn’t meet for long years. So my friend applied leave and decided to roam Goa. Well the Second day went by roaming Goa. Since I am not interested in alcohol Goa has become a normal touring spot. Though, varieties of sea food made me satisfied and made me feel like I am in different touring location. Since it was the first time for me visiting Goa I was exploring the route and was getting the information, places to visit for the another trip with fellow bikers from Krishnagiri. Surprising was the total revenue for Goa from tourism is 40% and major revenue is from mining. It was quite good day spent in Goa and came back to my friend’s home. For next day I have prepared to head towards Mumbai. And while choosing the route I preferred NH 17 route and that is going to be a full day ride to Mumbai.

    Control your Nerves on Curves:

This sentence does its purpose on the road side boards. Yes, 591kms from Goa to Mumbai where 80% of the roads are curves. Hill tops and downs. So if you are a curves freak, take Goa –Mumbai NH 17 route and the whole day will be a cornering mania. In and around Krishnagiri, Tamilnadu most of the Highways are 4 lane roads and Goa to Mumbai is a 2 lane road and for the whole day in curves and it is a 2 lane road so the experience was mix of both horrible and fun. Beside the roads you will see a very beautiful rivers coming along with you and the views of the rivers are spectacular. I feel so special now and I think me doing great for myself because I am just enjoying the ride and the views, nature’s beauty and roads are just heaven feel I am experiencing for the last three days.

    Obstacles:

Throughout the route from Goa to Mumbai there were many rubber strips on the road which should act as a speed breaker but no one has considered that even I didn't consider it and I rode the my bike with constant speed on the rubber strips and which has given very high impact and shock to the cables and wire. Connections of the Head light, Speedometer, indicators and so on. When I was at 105 kms to reach Mumbai headlights went off. And now I have to take care of it and have to reach Mumbai. Somehow I managed to find the right cable and wire which connects from switch to headlight has become loose and after tightening it the head light worked well and so reached Mumbai happily and safely.

Koteeswaran –(Kotty 46) one of our xBhp friends from Chennai now stays in Mumbai now for his official project. I called him a day before and asked for a help to stay along with him and he very much invited me. After a fine sleep woke up and today 14th May 2014 writing this log in Mumbai. I will be heading any other place and the details will be shared tomorrow.

Default Day 4: Nice Day, worst Night

Day 4: Nice Day, worst Night

First its thanks giving time to Kotty for arranging nice stay in Mumbai alone with him. I and Kotty were talking for long time (till 2:30 am) which made both of us to wake up at 9:00 am. Kotty rushed to his office and I am alone in the room getting ready for the next ride. My only idea or place to visit in Mumbai was gateway of India. After a quick preparation, I have started to roam Mumbai. As usual the traffic took 3 hours time to complete the Gate way of India visit. On the way to gate way the architecture of Mumbai city seems very tight. Since, I have got all the luggage along with me I couldn’t park my bike and just go because I was not sure will the saddle bag will be available when I came back from gateway of India. So just took few photographs by just standing out to the entrance and after that turned on the Google Map’s GPS navigation again to Ahmadabad. After lunch when I was crossing the border of the Mumbai city It was 4:00 pm.

The very clean Highway to Ahmadabad was a nice ride till 10:00 pm. The so called Express Highway starts exactly 100 km before from Ahmadabad is prohibited for two wheelers. When I am nearing the toll one security stopped me with scary eye and said bikes are not allowed. I just got confused and asked again and he said the same. I was smiling and asked then how and where to go. Then he explained that there is another way to go. But then I requested him to pass through Express highway and he replied by saying “It’s your risk now to go in this way” I said yes and throttled high but again in 100 meters another security caught me and he seems to be a straight officer so I was thrown out of the express Highway and supposed to take another route to reach Ahmadabad and there were complete 6 lane road construction was going on so I was experiencing horrible riding experience to reach Ahmadabad. From 10:00 pm it took 2:00 am to reach the City, including dinner time. It’s not at all suggestible to go Ahmadabad other than Express highway.

    Obstacles:

The 100 km of poor road made me sick and got missed with two worst accidents. Thank God. And at 2:00 am searching for rooms in the hotel was a tough experience. First I have to wake him up the reception guy and need to check eh traffic and by knowing I was badly need the room in middle of the night simply they increased the room rent so after checking 3 hotel forth one was finalized and checked in at 2:45 am and went to sleep.

    ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

Day 5: 947 kms ride in a day (16 hours) – Ahmadabad to Delhi

Again next day morning I woke up at 9:00 am. Got ready and without any question started to head towards Jaipur. When I entered in to Rajasthan I have just experience the out of India feel till Udaipur. Because the people’s dressing, sand house, landscapes and much more just made to feel that “I am doing worth riding in this road”. And while riding I got a question that I will be stayed in Jaipur or just 250 km away Delhi would do better for Stay. Then checked the route and timings to cover the distance and thank god I called Sunil Gupta to check on the hotel that he can refer for me even if I reach 3 am that night. With well guided information form Sunil Gupta I have decided to head to Delhi on the same day. When I was entering the Jaipur City It was around 11:30 pm and so quickly visited Hawa Mahal and headed to Delhi. Around 4:00 am I have reached Delhi and Google Map’s GPS navigation does its work very well and so I didn’t face any problem in finding the routes in the Cities (Goa, Mumbai, Ahmadabad, Jaipur, and Delhi).

Today 16th May the whole India was eager to know the election results and I woke up at 10:00 am and thought to visit xBhp Head quarters. After a brush up just visited xBhp HQ it was awesome moment for me being in the xBhp HQ for some time and the Hard core Rider’s awesome Office setup made me not to go out from there but then I was so tired and required to take rest and felt little hungry and with quick introduction and bye to all xBhpians in the HQ and came back to hotel and did some planning to tomorrow’s ride and going to sleep now.

As like TV reporters – See you tomorrow, until then by from Thulashi Dharan J. Stay tuned to this thread...
