I'm planning a solo journey of approx 400-500 kms. From mumbai to pune - vai - mahabaleswar. i own a R15. What precautions do i need to take for the bike apart from the gear ill be wearing. Do i need to take breaks at certain intervals. This will be my first ever bike trip.

@Nicky: Just keep your cool, remain calm and ride on. Simply enjoy the ride, and keep an eye on the road. That should be all, I believe. You know how to ride a motorcycle, you will easily make it. Ride safe.

Since the R15 is a liquid cooled bike, you don't have to worry about overheating etc.
Tech wise also its foolproof. There is a spare fuse under the seat, learn how to change that. Carry a tubeless tyre puncture repair kit. I guess that should be enough precaution.
While riding, don't get swayed by empty roads, stick to a speed which will leave you with enough reaction time in case someone/something suddenly jumps in, for eg.keep the speed upto 80kmph on 2 lane roads&100kmph on 4 lane roads. Controlled speed blasts are also fine, keep an eye out for bigger vehicles changing lanes etc.
Of course you already know the importance of riding gear. You must use a balaclava inside the helmet. Keep a scratchless visor ready. Do NOT use tinted visor for night riding. If not accustomed, better avoid night riding.
Make sure that you stop freqently enough so as to not let your body get dehydrated&also eat light meals. Relax&enjoy the ride!
