    Default Q: Saddlesore attempt help

    Hi all,

I've been thinking of attempting a saddlesore 1600 for quite sometime now and since next weekend its Gudi Padwa,i finally get a long weekend off work where i can plan and do this.Any later, and it will get too hot too ride I think(if it isn't already).

I just need some tips on how to go about the documents(proofs) part and other general considerations.

Also, some info specific to the Pune-Bangalore-Pune route(which I'll be taking),for eg. road conditions, places to stop, good places for getting the proofs, the turn-around point etc.

Any insight is appreciated. Thanks in advance

What bike are we talking about here? If its anything on 200cc & above, there's nothing to worry; anyway, check out these threads first...

Pune-Bangalore-Pune is nothing to worry about, just be cautious about one specific stretch (after Chitradurga towards Pune) where you don't have a fuel station for 100 Kms. Good places to get proof is fuel station.

If you want to succeed in first attempt ride through the route once casually before attempting a SS. Good luck.

    Thanks for all the links,

I have a 2007 pulsar 220fi, I've ridden from Pune to Belgaum a few times,so I'm comfortable with that. But don't have an idea about the roads further.

    Thanks for the Chitradurga tip.

Any other tips for riding from belgaum to tumkur(i'll be riding around there between 3-6am)

And by proof at fuel stations do we mean a card swipe purchase or the electronic receipt, because i've noticed some fuel stations print the wrong time?

Also do ATM proofs need to be taken separately? for proving the town you passed?(noticed this in Ananth's thread-Why not a saddlesore)

    Thanks for the help

    Otherwise you have another option;
doing Pune - Bangalore - Hyderabad section, practice to cross to BLR-Hyderabad section; last but not the least, service your P220 well & run it for about 200-300 Kms before you carry out SS. The only limitation I see on this trip is...you

Do a few Sunday morning rides to check your endurance. Good luck

Aargee good tips there not just for him but anyone willing to attempt SS.

The best would be a 2 day rece of the entire route, that will help locate all the bunks which have Electronic Receipts, places you are most likely to stop for Fuel and locations where if needed you might just find a mech

As per IBA rules, only Fuel E Receipts at starting and ending point are required(and at stops in between, normal manual receipts are good enough). To support one's application, one normally takes ATM receipts at starting and end points. Also. if you are taking a u turn, than again a dated receipt is required at turning point. Normally, to make application full proof, people target those bunks in the route, that give e receipts. Incase, you get a wrong time stamp, you can get the mismatch substantiated and signed by Bunk people.

I'd prefer the pune-blr-pune so that i can get back to work on a monday.I do like the part about me being the only limitation .Thanks for the tips.

A 2 day rece would really require some time which I'm not sure I'll be able to take out very easily.I wish i could though, would mean twice the ride.

Thanks, exactly the answer i wanted about the proofs Juris, thanks

So the plan currently stands like this: Leave from Pune around 11pm reach the turn around point(around tumkur) early morning and target reaching back around 8-9pm in the evening.

The benefit I see in this that I'll be fresher while riding in the night.Plus the fact that at the turn around point, mentally I'll have "all day" to ride home.

The disadvantage is that I'll be doing an unknown route(post-belgaum) at night time.

Do you think this is a good idea?

I would suggest you to get thoroughly acquainted with route before you attempt. Though, the average figure to be maintained is 70, but in 24 hours, maintaining this speed without acquaintance of route, fuel stops and road conditions would be difficult. In short you don't want to compromise on your safety.

Slighter correction - 78.1 Kmph in 21 hours; keep aside every 5 min per 1 hour for 23 hours for re-fuelling, ATM receipts, butt break
