I am thinking of fitting imported tyres onto my p180dtsi BUT I ABSOLUTELY AM AGAINST DOING ANY STRUCTURAL MODIFICATIONS TO THE BIKE, LIKE TO THE RIMS SWING ARM ETC. So plz tell me which is the max sized tyre I can fit, keeping the same rim on my p180dtsi, where can I do this (in mumbai), and the cost of the tyres. I read Hatari's discussion on how the engine is loaded when tire size is reduced. I dont wanna put any extra load on the engine whatsoever. Will my engine stay fine, as I am keeping the diameter constant (rim is the same) , or will it be loaded even because of a fatness increase. If this is so, I will drop the whole idea. What are the pros and cons of the following two types of tyres: those which have a "spiky" grip, like in dirtbikes and "bald" tyres like those in SBKs. Regarding the front tyre, I ofcourse am not gonna upsize it coz that will make handling heavier, but what abt same sized tyre with better grip? and lastly, just for information sake, I read on this site that if u fit a smaller tyre, u gotta do resprokecting to compensate for the loss of speed at a particular RPM, in order not to load the engine. so can anyone plz calculate and tell me, if somebody has fitted an elim rim on the rear, how many teeth should each of his sprokets have, in order that the engine is not loaded at all, and the speed at a given RPM does not decrease??? Thanxalot... Quote:

i dont think u will lose speed if you put a smaller tyre...there was a great article last year in some month issue of overdrive (i forget which 1)about the art of sprocketing....maybe u will find it now on its website.....
here the mechs say (i dunno if its true) the max size u can put in a P-180 is 120/90 with the same rim (without increasing the rear shocks).....the BEST tyres available in the "bald" type here are of the DURO company...u'r mileage WILL decrease definitely- i dunno abt accl and top speed....the max size with the "spiky" type is 4.60..... i HAVE seen bikes here with those size tyres.....but most of them have raised their rear-shocks and cut-off their rear mudguards.... i have no idea on the pros and cons....i just know wider tyre= better grip =better stability

i dont know abt the max tyre size tht can be put on the stock rim of 180dtsi.
i suggest you choose the normal tyres instead od bubble tyres(dirt bike). The bubble tyres spoil the looks. The speed and acceleration and mileage will be affectedd. yup the engine will be stressed, so u have to perform re-sprocketing, if the tyre size is reduced or increased. you can the put fatter tyres on front too,the handling will be heavier, but you can easily handle the bike... |

tanmay.. dont change ure tyres just for the sake of changing tyres.
There'l be new issues.. rpm, speed, handling, mileage etc to address the Zappers on the 180 are good enough. DO NOT PUT SLICKS ( bald tyres ) they'r meant for racing.. and have NO GRIP in the wet. spiky tyres are meant for off road dirt/muddy conditions.. not for city riding ( there are no pros for this.. only cons ) now for the sprocketing.. this depends on the tyre ( if u change it ).. so there is no fixed formula.. however, if u dont change the tyre, its simple when i changed my CBZ sprocket.. this is the article i referred to.. just found the link... it has all u want to know about sprocketing ! http://www.overdriveindia.com/art_dt...atures&code=17 and u're welcome !

hi i won a pulsar180...the stock tyres are not upto the mark....on harsh brakin it slips(no skiddin-----only straight lines..)i fine cbz tyres better than stoc pulsar 180 tyres...coz they hav wet stability also...regardin to mods......very wide option is available......u can fit duro or maxxis tyres.....mileage change will be around -6/7 dot.......michelin tyres are gud.....the one on tendonwrencher p 180..........but elim tyres luks gud..............
the affect ur top speed.......elim increases initiial...and decreases top end......u choose one which is suited for u.......... and duro tyres are unidirectional with a straight cut----which gives wetgrip...not as stock p180.... |

thx rash, so assuming I put 120/90-18 or 130/90-18 tyres on the rim, without any mods, do I load the engine or reduce fuel efficiency? and btw why is fuel efficiency reduced? is it because of the loading engine factor caused by smaller diameter tyres, or is it because, more surface area in contact with the ground, so more friction caused, so more mileage...

I was referring to a discussion "Pulsars Vs Fiero F2" in which there's an interesting debate on Radial tyres. Which of the tyres in the indian market, or the imported ones mentioned above in this forum Duro/Maxxim/Barracuda are radials?? if not are there any radials available here??
