  • [xBhp Universal Thread]: Traffic Rules For Inter-State Rides

There a few questions that has always bugged me.

    1) After how many months do we actually require a NOC to ride a bike in a different state?

    2) How to prove the entry time of your bike in a particular state?
Is it through toll naka or petrol recipts?

    Expert comments(facts) invited....

      1. Every state in the country has they own set of sweet rules, so you can never be sure. Actually an NOC is only required if you need to 're-register' your bike in that state. Else you just need to pay the road tax. Road tax is of two types Life-Time/Temporary. Temporary tax would paid for the time period you spend in a particular state.

      2. Toll nakas don't ask bike's to pay toll and hence no receipt. Your best bet is fuel slips with the bike's registration number in it.

More often than not, the Policemen quote differing rules and a lot depends on your luck/cop's mood!

What if you have not refueled in the state you have travelled into? Fuel slips with bike's registration number is rarity.

Is there a written rule of a particular state available? Travellers should travel with a copy of that, I guess.

^^ That's the catch. You need to specifically ask for a bill that has your bike's registration number in it.

off late most petrol pumps give computer bills and no provision for registration number on that... on a handwritten bill you can at least make that guy write the reg. number.

only chance I believe is the PUC that needs to be got every 6 months.

rest depends on your luck and cops mood.

I think the PUC can be the easiest way as its readily available and it contains date, place as well as bike num.

while surfing the K'taka RTO I got following info :

When should I obtain Karnataka Registration Mark?
A Vehicle is not permitted to ply with other state registration mark beyond 11 months from the date of migration . So you should apply and obtain the Karnataka Registration mark before that period.

However, unfortunately in the end it all depends on the COP and his mood.

so suppose i am bringing a bike from cochin to bangalore - a permanent transfer.

do I just have to pay the road tax for karnataka ?

                  or
do i have to take a NOC from the Cochin RTO ? and then pay the karnataka tax .

By doing so, you'll have a KL registered bike and you have the choice of going back to Kerala... No need for a NOC in this case... Just pay the ROAD TAX & use it as... In case of any police cases (accident / theft etc...) you might have to go back to KL for everythng... Probability of cops catching you is quite hight compared to KA registered bike

If you're not going back to Kerala you can opt to get NOC from Cochin RTO, pay the KA Road tax & then subsequently get a KA registration number... It'll be as good as KA bike...

                      +1 and most sensible.

When was the last time someone tried to argue rules with a Pandu and succeeded?

If we visit a particular state for 1 or 2 days do we need any special document other than the DL, RC, Insurance and PUC?
