Question Classic looks + reliable bike wanted: please help

this is my first post, and apologies in advance if it is too long.

i owned a Splendor for 10 years before it was stolen twice! (that's another story). am currently driving an old Yamaha rx100 that i borrowed from a friend.

am 34, architect + a.professor and use the bike primarily for commuting 5km (1 way) daily in mild traffic. however, the long ride bug has recently bit me and wish to go on 100+ rides once in a while. this of course is a wish, and am hoping that purchasing a new bike will help in this.

now to my bike query. its a very personal opinion, but i dislike the styling of new bikes with their complicated shapes. i prefer retro/classic looks with simple lines like say the yezdi, old Yamaha, or even RE bikes. at the same time i want something that is reliable and does not stop mid way. other requirements are-
  1. engine capacity: does not matter! fine with 100cc as well as 220cc!
  2. fuel efficiency: anything above 30+
  3. reliability: matters a lot. should last long with reasonable maintenance
  4. budget: anything less than 80-85k
bikes i have in mind
avenger220, Honda shine, Yamaha crux, Splendor+ as you can see, its a strange set of choices and i badly need some advice. i have been pouring over the what bike threads for the past week to see if there are others like me!

handles well for 100-200 kms ride.. check it out...feel it...see if u like it...also have u test driven anything as of yet...

do that...only then will u know which babe u can love....

PS: that post is nowhere near a long post...there have been longer ones....

Count me in your list . I too love retro looking motorcycles like CBX, GT1000, then, there're very limited choices in this country for that budget price.

How about a STD 350 that will perfectly fit into your budget? Otherwise, restore the Rx to mint & it can do 100+ Kms in touring.

As said by aargee bro go for a STD 350 when you want something for long distance Its a STD always IMO RE has severly tampered what bullets were no thump left gear as like the modern bikes nothing about the new UCE's is really retro styling ;If classic looks and retro styling is all you look for go for a CI STD ; Since you want it for long distance travels i would suggest you to get a LB 500 but they are few in number and getting spares is another pain but i can assure you that it will never let you down ; As for as maintenance is concerned you need to be ready to become a half mechanic but for a true biker its always enjoyment to work on their machine themselves; best wishes on the hunt ;

Staid rider, argee I join you guys in wishing there was a bike with clean, simple retro looks.

Staid rider, the RE Electra UCE is a good option, however reliability is still not proven and costs north of a lac of green ones.
Super Splendor 125/ Honda Shine, Both are good bike with decent torque, fuel efficiency etc. Maybe I would replace the Super splenders front headlamp with a simple round unit.
