I've not ridden bikes much, just my brother's Stunner.

I'm not a fan of vroommmm or power, but don't want a bike which will max out at 60-70kmph either. Also, I want a reliable bike with low maintenance. It should run fine with regular services and petrol Although, I'm not mileage freak, but a mileage of 50 or above would be good as money always matters. I'm ready to spend upto 70-72k on the bike in Pune.
So, I'm thinking of a 125cc or a 150cc bike.

I'm not thinking of bajaj as I want a low maintenance bike.
Shine : Only 4 gears and waiting time is also big. Very light weight, wouldn't be much fun on high ways.
Stunner : don't want two stunners at home and the vibrations are large.
RTR, FZs, CBZX, Pulsar, Hunk, Dazzler : Powerful bikes (I don't care about the 0-60 timings) and lack in mileage.
So, only I'm considering 3 bikes
Honda Unicorn, Yamaha SZ-R and Suzuki GS150R

SZ-R gives a mileage of 50-55 but the bike shroud, the windshield(whatever it is called ) seemed to be of the flimsy quality. Also, the bike did go upto 80kmph(I'm sure it will go even faster) on test ride but it did lack the 150cc feel.

Honda Unicorn is a nice bike, everything is just smooth. But 6-7months waiting! Also the bike is of older technology.

Suzuki GS150R : It was a nice bike. On the test drive, I really liked the smoothness of the bike. But the test ride was short and I'm worried if it will be difficult for me to handle. I'm 5'6" tall and fat.
Also the bike is comparatively new and long term reliability is not yet checked. I've heard about the rusting issues (don't know if they are resolved till now). How is the bike selling, now that it is two years old? How is the spare part availability.


Any help or suggestions on selecting the bike.

Curious as to know why you would rule out Dazzler and include Unicorn for given reason "Powerful bikes...lack in mileage". They are almost identical in most areas.

If you consider lcd/digital display as advance technology for motorcycles, then I don't have anything to say.
For me, its the engine, chassis and suspension. And from among your pick. Unicorn's mono-shocks is more advance in that respect.

Unicorn & GS150R will be too big for you. Try Apache RTR160. Best performer among the 150's (except R15 ofcourse). And if you ride sane It'll definetly deliver above 50kmpl. But if you are concerned too much about mileage, select between SZ series and discover150. Or you can checkout the 125cc range.

Even if you say that SZ R lacks 150 CC juice, I would still recommend SZ R, good bike from one the most reliable company.

As you said you are even good with 125 CC, then Yamaha SS 125 will be good.

Choose between SZ-R, SS 125 and Honda Shine.

Yamaha SZ R, is a very good city bike that Yamaha came up with! Inclusion of disc brakes and tachometer adds more spice into it. Mileage 50-55 kmpl for sure, on my SZ R I am getting more than 50 kmpl. City handling is very good. I will be trying some long trips on my SZ R after second service.

SS 125 is by far the best 125 CC bike around, its not me but everyone says it. It has got tachometer, Yamaha reliability, if you ride it sane then it will return you impressive mileage figures.

Honda Shine is very good 125 CC bike, but it has same old vibration issue if you take it to higher speed, but as far as maintenance and mileage, Shine is very good. Also it can touch the 90 kmph of speed.

Above all 3 bikes comes under Rs. 65000/- onroad including accessories and insurance

Let us know which bike you chose.

GS as far as my knowledge goes....is a BAAP machine....
the rusting issues had been resolved in 2010 models itself.....spare parts are only available with the SVC you wont find them with local mechanic....as in the parts of pulsars/unis are not compatible with GS........i found many GS's every time i rode.....maybe due to close proximity to SVC......you test rode it....right?
did you manage to pull over easily,if yes then close your eyes and blindly go for GS.......

My suggestion is to go for Yamaha SZ-R. The GS150 has many niggling issues and will not meet your criteria.

Pulsar 150 is a great all rounder - don't assume that it will give lesser mileage than say a Uni or a GS150.
