Default The razor sharp r15 V2.0 or the sports tourer CBR 250

Hi all

So here goes –

I am biker at heart turned cager, was brainwashed into buying a car by my folks last year when I was just a few steps away from buying my ninja 250 in turn robbing me of all my money. But in real honest terms I’d be lying if I say do not enjoy the comfort and fun factor of my punto 1.3 MJD.

Now when I had decided that I must wait a while before I could get my hands on something substantial in came the new R15 V2.0 and I got completely sold on its looks. Though was a lil disappointed on power output remaining the same. But the damage was done…..the biker buried deep inside came back to life and yearned to ride again.

So I went ahead and decided that this is what I am gonna get but then just instinctively went for a test ride of the cbr 250 and loved the additional torque low down compared to the r15. Now I knew I had a problem at hand and couldn’t really make up my mind for either of the bikes.

I’d need all the help I can get to make a wise decision based on my requirements.

My current place of work is 37 kms away from my home most of which is the expressway or city roads with lesser than average traffic. ( I have done this commute in about 20 mins on my 5 yr old P180at times) .

I am a cornering junkie, however the roads that I travel to go to work has precisely 7 turns in all of the 37 kms, so would miss out on the most fun thing to do astride the R 15.

When I rode the CBR I loved the comfortable riding position. However whats got me scared is the dodgy reputation of this bike in terms of quality and workmanship. Also from my friends I have heard of this recurring gear box issues.

Also I am not looking to keep the bike for more than 1.5 – 2 yrs before I save enough to get my hands on something big.

Please help me out, pour your thoughts

if u want cornering then te r15 takes the cake, but if u want comfort and an amazing ride quality then its the cbr that you should go for.

decide what your priorities exactly are; it will make it very easy for you to choose between the two.

Go for the cornering king R15, you will most likely end up keeping it even after you buy a bigger bike-it has all the traits of a SBK&in precisely 1.5-2yrs. you will feel you are ready for a bigger bike!

Default Looking for a new bike

Hi guys I am Saurabh.I have been following this thread for some time now, but this is my first post here.
Currently i ride a HH Hunk.In the past 5 years i have learnt a lot in riding and so has my expectations changed.Earlier i really enjoyed 3K-5K rpm city ride and highway ride on my bike. But now i tend to shift only after 7K and somehow i am now feeling that Hunk is not the right bike for this kind of riding and neither does it provide the feedback or handling that i am expecting now.Above all quality is my top priority.

Now my hunt for a new bike has narrowed down to R15 version 2.0 and CBR 250(non ABS).I know this isn't the thread for R15 but what i realised in last few days is we have many CBR owners here who have owned R15.I rode a colleagues CBR today but i am not able to get a test ride of R15 yet.

Guys it would be a great help if you guys could give the pros and cons of both, or may be a comparo. Please ask if any other info is needed.

Thanks in advance

My vote goes to R15, just because I haven't heard anything negative on R15, but on the other hand even engine seizures are reported on CBR250, which hasn't even completed 5k kms. If you can wait Duke 200 & new pulsar series are in offing in a couple of months, you can check them out as well.

Looks like you haven't read here in xBhp about an engine seizure around 4K on a R15.

@xxbomb +1; what is that "recurring" gear box issues

what's the guarantee that the pulsars and ktm wont seize? just because u love Bajaj doesn't mean the cbr is bad. afaik there has been only one cbr seizure and Honda handled it in the best possible way by providing a brand new replacement engine.
the way u mention seizure issue, it will make the prospective buyer feel as if there are plenty of cbr seizures.

@buyer:- please go thru the cbr ownership thread for more cbr details

CBR250R is an all rounder compared to R15 V2; has good power, good handler in city and highways, comfortable tourer, good looks (though subjective), comfortable pillion seat. R15 V2.0 is more style than substance compared to CBR250R (keeping aside the handling part).

And, please take a thorough test ride (borrow from known owners) and see the differences.
