I own pulsar 150 ug3. It's the most well maintained bike in the city. It has done 26,000kms till date and it's in it's 7th year. Had my block and piston changed in 2010. From yesterday onwards, smoke is coming from the exhaust pipe. The mechanic told me to change the block and piston. Some of my friends are suggesting me to sell it ane buy the new pulsar 200ns. But my family members are against it and telling me to repair it and keep it, as it's actually a new looking buy. The piston wearing is natural. If I repair the bike, it'll be a cheap affair against buying a new bike which is close to Rs 1 Lakh. I am confused. Please suggest honestly guys... What you all have to say about this. Should I keep my present bike or should I go for the new pulsar. One thing to say, my pulsar 150 has 14 bhp, which has adequate power for my bikes. And I simply love it's horn sound. And personally, it has some emotional attachment also. Whereas, the pulsar 200ns has a discouraging horn and a bit tall for my taste. Need an honest suggestion. Thanks in advance.

26k is too less for a bike to get the block and piston changed and getting it change second time ??.. engine wear n tear again depends on the usage.. just a 26k run bike but 7 years old will not fetch you much and will not be a good sale. I would suggest get it checked with a good mechanic figure out the cost for the repair. it might be just rings and piston work and not bore replacement..

getting engine fixed will cost you 5-6k whereas a new bike will be close to a lakh or maybe more... personal suggestion is 26k is too less for a bike to be sold.. get it fixed and use it
as your usage is not much... and regularly maintain it..

this particular scenario new bike does not makes sense..

Have you consulted any other mechanics? There can be several reasons for smoke coming from exhaust. Take opinions from atleast 4-5 experienced mechanics before actually performing any major overhaul. Was the previous overhaul done perfectly? Maybe the current issue has something to do with your previous overhaul now being 100% perfect - do consult a few experienced mechanics before making a choice.

It appears that the bore-piston replacement was not done properly last time. I hope you haven't ridden your bike with less oil (below the min. mark).
Get it checked at Authorised Service center and ask them on how much would it cost for the repair. All the works done at service center will have warranty, though it would cost a bit more.
Otherwise if you have a really reliable local mechanic, get the engine rebored to next oversize, change the piston/rings; this would cost you less compared to work from Bajaj Service center.

Need help in buying a new bike.... Confused about the old bike :-)

Hi Frndz....I am new to this forum but thought of asking experts out here regarding my bike. I m in a serious confusion whether or not to buy a new bike. I have a pulsar 150 cc (2005) which has travelled 78856 kms as of today. Now the problem is that the carburetor and the head valve is creating some issues and mechanic has said that it would cost around 6K to fix both of them and the bike would be ready to run again smoothly. Currently there is pick up issue along with lot of noise when rpm is increased and even there is black smog kind of thing in silencer (mechanic said that oil is burning ...lol ). I am very bad at all the technical aspects of the bike so not sure if the mechanic is right or wrong. I have 2 options now either I go for a new bike and sell dis old one or repair this and stay happy ..... I need help now as I am totally confused. Talking about new bike I am looking for a good mileage bike with smooth riding. Should I go for Pulsar 150/180 or 220. Please help me with my query as I seriously need to get out of this confusion asap . Thanks in advance !!!

                question is

are you willing to shell out 80k-100k for a new bike ? if yes then sell this and go for a new one.
will you be ok riding the same old bike after it is fixed ? if yes then 6k is way lesser than spending 80k and it will last you another 20k km easily without much work..

                  Re: present or future???

If you can afford and want to spend Rs 80000 to 1 Lakh then its the right time to buy a new bike & sell your old bike. If you want to save money then spend few thousand and repair your old bike. Simple
