    Default 1st ever Bike in my life

    Hello guys,
    I have never owned a bike and neither did my dad, so this is gonna be like the first bike in my home. I have ridden Activa and discover to some extent (Not more than 10km at once). Now iam planning to buy a bike suitable for daily commute(My ofc is abt 10kms from my home) and occasional weekend trips.

    Iam 5'6, and weigh 63 kgs. I have Fz V2.0, Hornet 160r, and pulsar 200ns in my mind. My budget is around 1-1.1L, do I have a better option? I am really confused since lot of days. I ignored Gixxer for the same reason as evry1, pillion comfort. Also, will I face any difficulties in handling 200ns as I hv never ridden a high power bike? What pro's does hornet have compared to fz apart from mileage.

    The FZ is a nice tried and tested bike. If you are looking for pillion comfort, then you can probably check out the Unicorn and new Pulsar 150 even.

    I took the test drive for Hornet, fz fi v 2.0 and pulsar 200ns

    200NS: I liked the pickup and handling but the problem is with the height. I was wearing sandals and my feet didn't touch the ground completely to push the bike forward when I was sitting. Would be very difficult if the bike is in centre stand😥
    Have to wear shoes with high soles all the time
    Also, it costs around 1.15 lakh on road, it will be over 1.2 lakh with equipments which is a bit over my budget. And the mileage as claimed by dealer is 35kmpl which I feel is less.

    Hornet: Had the worst experience with the dealers. They treat customers like shit, but the ride was pretty good. Mileage is claimed to be 45kmpl by dealers.
    Is it common for engines to be very hot even after short rides..??
    I hardly rode for 1km and I could feel the heat between my legs. Is this the common problem faced by Hornet users?
    Also, even if the features are better for Hornet, I don't see much Hornets on road. Any reason?

    Fz v 2.0: I rode the bike for very short distance as compared to other 2 bikes. Mileage is claimed to be 40kmpl. Pillion comfort seems ok in all 3 bikes. Only reason iam thinking twice before buying this bike is because this was launched years back unlike the other 2. Also, Yamaha claimed to have 6 free services in 2years whereas the other 2 had 3 in 1 year.

    Iam really confused. Any suggestions are welcome.😊

    For your requirement you can choose any of the 150s these manufacturers offer. They all are equally good. The Hornet you tested might be not in proper tune and running too lean. Not to forget that these test rides get some good thrash from perspective buyers. It's a good bike.

    Honda's dealer and after sales experience is bad in general but honestly others aren't that great either considering the "commuterish" Indian market.

    You can also test ride the Gixxer.

    Buying 150cc bike?
    1St option is the Gixxer, the best 150 naked bike out there, realy punchy, amazing dynamics, also offers best in class in F.E.

    Second Hornet, if you want more comfort , especially for the pillion compared to gixxer.
    Ride quailty is pretty similar in both bikes gixxer absorbs smaller undulations better than hornet.

    Rtr200 : if you want a bike that finds its spot Gixxer/Hornet and 200ns.
    Rtr is very peppy to ride, good fun incity, but lacks pillion comfort, and the less power compared to 200NS and Duke200 IS NOT HELPING in offering better fuel efficiency, which is a bummer.


    200NS: not need to worry about more power, this bike doesn't take off aggressively like a Duke200, but the low end pull is still better other bikes you mentioned here.

    200NS engine is like it has 2 riding modes, below 6000 rpm, its very calm and relaxed just right for city and after 6k RPM, its a different animal.






    Get 200NS only if you plan to do long rides especially highway rides, other wise 150cc bikes are enough.
    If getting 200NS, take a test ride, that bike has quite higher seat height.

    Hi Naveen,

    My suggestion would be FZ 16/ FZ V2

    I am using FZ 16 for more than 5 years now. Switched to FZ from CBZ Xtreme(version 1) which was used for 3 years. Xtreme was extremely good when it comes to performance. I loved every aspect of Xtreme's performance. Pick up was the best. I have reached the top speed of 120. But all those sounds from the bike parts once after few months and the roughness feel after sometime of each service made me feel uncomfortable. And the suspension was gone the way I used it. I started feel a bit of pain in my back because of that.

    Once after I got my FZ 16 I felt very comfortable. Initially, Pick up was lacked compared to Xtreme. But then the smooth performance made me forget all those problems I personally faced with CBZ. FZ feels rough only when the Engine oil level low or to be topped up. Otherwise you will always have the feel of a new bike. That is what I love about FZ. Smooth engine and no niggles or irritating noise from the body parts.

    You can go for FZ V2 as it comes with Fuel injector and also the pillion seat comfort is better than the FZ1. I have never been to service centre or Local mechanic unless the bike needs to serviced on its regular service interval. I guess this is what everyone need from their very first ride. And bike looks good too. My top speed was 120. Been to all kind of terrains. Felt very comfortable because of its suspension.

    So I guess u can give FZ a shot.

    Iam definitely looking for Hornet or Fz v 2.0 now. I wanna know if I have any other options coming up just to be sure and not repent later.

    I hear pulsar 150/180 ns will be launched soon. Is there any other bike launches planned soon, so that I can wait for another couple of months and then buy. I don't mind waiting for a couple of months, I just wanna buy the right Bike as this is gonna be my 1st gift to myself with my salary.

    I know that Gixxer is the best in class out there but I plan to ride with my mom and sister quite often and pillion seat seems to be very uncomfortable.

    Hornet seems Good though!!

    Fz is definitely top on my list. It's just that it was launched 2years back and there might be better bikes with advanced features in the market now or coming up soon. Just wanna be sure.

    Have you seen the new FZ25? It's been priced in the most unbelievable way and seems like an exciting prospect. Knowing Yamaha, you probably don't have to worry about getting a bike from the first batch. It generates a decent amount of power, it definitely has the mileage you want and it looks cool too. As far as I can see the pillion seat is nice and wide too. Give it a thought. Anyhoo, let's talk about what IS available. Of the bikes you've listed I'd choose the hornet. It's not that I'm proclaiming the bike as the best, but it's a Honda. And even though the guys at the ASC are total nincompoops, the bike kind of is hassle free. Especially since you're a first time owner, it'll help to have a forgiving vehicle. I'm no big fan of the hornet's performance however. The gearbox is uncharacteristic for a Honda. There's a buzziness in the bike that is reminiscent of my Twister 110, where as Honda bikes are butter smooth to ride. Test ride a unicorn to see what I mean. Yet, the hornet looks so good and has had so few problems I'd still recommend it to first timers.

    Second recommendation is - you guessed it! FZ(whatever goes here). Yamaha is the other amazing Japanese brand that's known for reliability. The new FZ comes with an ecu no less. The power will be manageable and fuel economy will be good(blue core tech). Bike looks good and I've always regretted not starting on an FZ. If money is there get the Fazer, you'll thank me later.

    I'm not saying the other bikes in the segment aren't good - far from it. If you ask me every bike in the sub 200cc segment has its own strong point. I've recommended from a beginner's perspective. The 200NS is a beautiful bike to ride. But you have the pillion comfort issue. I'd never recommend a TVS motorcycle after the kind of experience I've had with them, but there's so many members on this forum that have pulled off a successful relationship with TVS vehicles.

    The Bajaj V15 is a vehicle I'd love to recommend to you. I rode the bike around and instantly fell in love with it. It's a cool little city bike. But I really don't want to recommend it for long rides, though it did do better on the highway than I expected. But those 10km rides to your office will be fun on a V15.

    The Hero Hunk is also one hell of a bike. Easy on the pocket and great long term bike. May get a bit boring though.

    Lastly - have you considered the Aprilia SR150? it's not a bike... But it's amazing. Just go test ride it for the heck of it. Who knows, you may love it.

    Do NOT be a lazy buyer - test ride every single recommended vehicle. Scooters are NOT inferior to motorcycles, there's situations in which I prefer scooters(just letting you know that you can pick a scooter if you don't like motorcycles). Also - save enough money for good saftey gear(helmet, jacket, gloves and shoes) irrespective of your ride being a bike or a scooter - you will NEVER regret getting good safety gear, especially as a beginner.
