Default New Bike Needed - Budget - 2 to 2.5 Lakh

    Hi All,

My name is Arun. I am a newbie here. I am on the lookout for a new bike. I used to own an Apache RTR 180 (2010) model. I am 5'8" and looking for a bike which would not induce back or wrist pains upon riding. The bike would be mainly used for office commute and occasional long rides. It needs to have a smooth and refined engine with minimal vibrations, hassle free ownership and reasonable pillion comfort. Looking forward to your valuable suggestions.

    Regards
    Arun

    Query Approved

The FZ 25, the Dominar and if you are willing to sacrifice pillion comfort the Dukes. If you are looking for tried and tested though a bit dated, the CBR 250.

Test ride Yamaha FZ25, TVS RTR 200 (if possible wait for ABS and FI), Dominar ABS, RS 200 ABS, Duke 250 and 390 and finally CBR 250R.

if you can wait for some more time you may get a touch on BMW G310R or TVS Apache 300 whichever releases first.

I won't be suggesting RC 200/390 as the seating position is more leaner.

    Thanks

    Hey Arun,

FZ25 or Dominar. Dominar is VFM and FZ25 is refined. Height will not be an issue. If you can wait for few more months. G310R is not too far away from launch (from what I heard).

Thanks for all your responses. Here is what I feel, and what is causing the confusion:

    1. I feel that the FZ 25 is commuterish in it's look though I hear that from a performance, build stand point, it's great
    2. I am skeptical of the Dominar as it looks not very different from the Pulsar. It looks more like a beefed up updated Pulsar - just my feeling
    3. What do you guys think of the Bullet esp. the Classic 500 or Thunderbird 500?

I went to test drive the CBR 250 but only the CBR 150 was available for test drive. The sales person said that the riding position and ergonomics of CBR 250 is not too different from the 150. Is that true? I also enquired about the BS IV CBR 250, but they have no clue about when that would be available.

The BMW G310R is mouth watering prospect, but any chance that will be coming to the shores in the next 3-4 months?

Also, looking to hear thoughts on how much difference a slipper clutch makes on the riding experience especially in the city?

    That's not Apache 300. It's akula 310.
And going by the looks if the bike, i think it has an aggressive riding position.
And moreover it doesn't have a pillion seat I believe. Experts correct me if I am wrong.

Did you get a chance to see the test mule?

Akula 310 is a race concept bike by Tvs

And it will not release with the name Akula 310 and am pretty sure of it at least.
And it does have a Pillion seat.. Riding stance based on test mule is between R15 and RC 200. Now you go and check it out dude...

RE Bullets are really good bikes but the maintenance is where you will cry for help.... RE ASS has never improved. If you give your bike to solve one problem they will invent another problem and give you back.

Seating position of CBR 150 and 250 has almost the same seating position but 250 looks more bigger when you sit on the saddle. To feel the power and torque you need to get a test ride of CBR 250. Send an email or book a test ride through Honda website bro.

    - possible one as per recent news on websites they will be releasing around June it seems.

I don't have much idea about slipper clutches - AFAIK it prevents rear wheel locking during engine braking (during engine downshifts) this might be useful for you during rainy season and on muddy roads provided you are using engine downshifts to brake.
