When I last posted here, I had finalised a yellow coloured RTR Carb. despite my preference for the orange colour which was only available in FI.
I had read the thread started by Techno ( P180 DTSi V1 VS KArizma VS Apache RTR ) and was happy with the choice of RTR Carb. Also, I had a friend working in TVS who said that a lot of FI bikes were coming in with problems in the fuel injector and so I should go for Carb (This was in late September). I spoke to the dealer regarding this issue and she told me that this was due to the fact that many people drive with very less fuel in the vehicle and FI required about 2.5 L in the tank for smooth performance (not sure if this is really true). But there was a delay in finding a good dealer (julianpaul ( xBhp.com : The Global Indian Biking Community - View Profile: julianpaul ) helped me out in locating a good one. Thanks!) The delay led me to reconsider the FI as I prefer the orange colour more than the yellow. Also, the tiger stripes are worth killing for. So, now my question is - should I go for FI or Carb.? 1. Is the difference in power really significant? 2. Any reduction in vibes? 3. Could more power mean more trouble in wet conditions? ![]() 4. 5 km/L more. 5. Any other points of comparision 6. VFM (10K for FI?) My usage will primarily be to office on weekdays and regular Pune Bombay trips/ Bombay to Lonavala/Matheran/Alibaug/etc trips on weekends. Any tips on what to look for when taking delivery? Have been using borrowed bikes for the last 4 years (Yamaha RX-4, Pulsar 150, Splendor, Pulsar 220, Passion). In the meantime, I have got an AGV helmet (Black matte - Helmets thanks to the pics posted by L.P. My visor is a transparent one, didnt know that I had to specify that separately.) for 2095 from Babloo Motors in Vashi, Sector 17. |

Well, one of the main advantages that you'll have with the FI system is fuel delivery. Since you seem to live up north or go there a lot, and since it gets really cold there, you won't have to worry about cold starts or proper idling. Just thumb the starter, idle for 5 seconds and move.
Power won't mean trouble in wet conditions once you get comfortable with your bike. And yes, there is definitely a marginal increase in mileage because of the FI system. Frankly, if you're willing to go for the FI model and have the cash for it, then don't think twice about it. You also get a cookie - additional rear discs with the FI.

Overall package of RTR FI looks better then its CARB version, the FI technology provides better fuel delivery as compared to CARB which inturn helps in overall performance of the bike, then you get Rear disc brake which will provide better braking as compared to the rear drum brakes of the CARB version
My Verdict: Go for RTR FI

Just go for it man. The RTR FI has a whole different character than the carb RTR and is really good. The fuel injection "problems" that people refer to is baseless.
Yes you need to maintain minimum fuel level in the tank. Its just that the stock ECU is set very lean for emission and economy sake, and u find a few hiccups low down. For that extra 9k, u get rear disc, FI, 0.6bhp more, higher torque peak(which changs the character of the engine), better top-speed, more economy, a better sounding exhaust and your favourite shade too.

Had the same doubt a few months back, but thanx to Joel and Sai_ace, am pretty inclined towards the Fi now.
O.T : Yes, am getting this bike for my bro in a month or so. I will run it in, and if I like it, will keep it for myself instead of the R15 ![]()

U'll pretty much end up keeping the RTR FI man. Today i was finding it so difficult to keep pace with an RTR FI on streets with me on my R15. Finally I beat him hard, but it was a task for me. Shows what its made of. With a bone stock R15, its very very difficult to catch the RTR FI, almost not possible actually.

i own RTR fi orange n i have completed 1080 km today..i find no prob wid that bike.. millage depends pretty much on maintenance.....if there is no enough fuel in tank, a very harsh sound comes from tank...you'll never want to hear it..i got scared the first time i heard that...so it is very imp to make sure that u always have 1-1.5L of fuel in tank(never let u r bike starve for fuel)....vibrations r still their..u can feel the power on u r hands...
