Default 150CC Bike -- GS150R or Honda Unicorn

Hello All,
Let me first thank you all for the wonderful community that has been created at xbhp.com. After reading the posts in different threads it truly has given me a thorough view of all the 150cc bikes in the market. After some research on xbhp, i have decided to consider either GS150R or Unicorn.
My requirements are
1) Should be commuter friendly.
2) Mileage should not be less than 50 kms/ltr.
3) After sales service should be good in Pune(i am currently living in Pune and would be buying it out here itself).

4) I would be traveling mostly around 40-45 kms per day.
Now i have read a lot about GS150R in xbhp posts and i find it to be a very good package as a whole compared to Unicorn.
However i haven't even seen a single GS150R in Pune till now , what worries me is the after sales service and spare parts availability two years down the line. I have heard that honda's after sales service is bad, there has been an instance of a Unicorn being stolen from the service center in Pune this May.

I plan to have the bike for atleast 5 years, so would very much appreciate if my fellow members helped me in making the decision of choosing the right bike.

The SUZUKI is better in almost all aspects but what lets it down is the after sales service and spares availability.

It also returns a better FE than the Unicorn. With better power and torque too.

It s upto you to decide on what u want to compromise. The dismal A.S.S of Suzuki or the Slightly feature-less,lower FE,power and torque of the Unicorn.

Take ur pick.

You have yourself admitted that overall the GS is more appealing. I think you should visit the GS thread, there are a few Pune owners there!

Suzuki GSR should be the bike for you
Reasons:

-Since you mentioned you would ride mostly in the city, the most important factor is the torque output.....GSR simply outclasses the uni in this deptt...
GSR's 13.4 nm makes it one of the best commuter bikes in this segment (uni produces 12.7-12.8nm)
and this goes along with the better power output of gsr

-Moreover, I feel GSR's power and torque curve is more biased towards the low end making it an extremely flickable in city conditions and extreme ease to ride in city..(better than uni)

- Uni is an old product, GSR is a new product

- Though, handling of Uni would be a notch better than GSR, the overall comfort in GSR is much better than uni

- Since suzuki is evolving, its obvious that down the line, the sales and service would only become better, so dont worry about it...

- Moreover, I have the first hand experience of Honda's service (back home in Bhopal) and they are one of the worst when it comes to service.....

-Mileage, as reported by owners are around 55 for both the bikes

- You get didital speedo in GSR (which looks awesome) whereas UNI make do with analogue

-Sixth gear acts as an overdrive, whenevr you want to go on highways, the bike feels much more relaxed...

Summing it up, I would say GSR, is better in almost all aspects than the Uni and I find no reason of preferring it over a GSR....

On road prices for uni and GSR in are almost in the similar range

Go for GSR....a much better overall package then the old horse from the honda's which need a complete overhaul...!

Hi Akhil "
Suzuki GS150R would be a better bike for you as its a combination of both sporty style, brilliant comfort and the latest among the technology with a really awsome fuel effieciency'
As u ride 45-45 kms a day" gs150R has a good riding position' better handling, and superior roadgrip,
u have to look for the service the dealear there provides.
Unicorn is a kool bike which is refined in all aspect" as its practically tested on roads for years".
but give your eyes a change buddy" GS150R is a value for money.

Thanks guys, for all the comments I am almost there (95%) to select GS150R.......
But still one thing nags me is that i haven't seen a single one in Pune......i stay in western pune....... If its so good then why hasn't it taken the market by storm
I would be rest assured that i was selecting a product better than its competition if i saw a few on the road like Apache RTR,unicorn,fz 16 or hunk

can any of you please tell me the cons of this bike???

The only reason for your above statement is lack of advertisement and marketing of this, otherwise, brilliant bike by Suzuki...

And we have a lot of GSRs in Pune
