Shelly,
I have completed our PRATAP's JAMES ML restoration,
just today I went for a test ride...........it was thrilling to ride this Hand gear machine in the present day's cumbersome traffic !!!
Have to " RUN -IN" for some more time.......yes, can feel the friction of the bore.

Beautiful motorcycles Mr. MKK. Would like to see more pictures of Before and After restoration and a few tips about restoration. Tips like getting spares, what do you concentrate first while restoring a bike, and various other stuff. Ok, here is my first question.

While restoring a Jawa/Yezdi most people buff or chrome the engine covers or probably paint it silver. What is the correct form of coating/plating done on the original ones and do they do them anymore?

Its nice to see Tuffryder here !!
Yes, I'll post "Restoration Procedure" I do follow in restoring bikes, let me take some time to gather my breath and sit down, with my INDEX finger, to do the write up.
Regarding ,Jawa/ yezdi engine cases(?), complete engine & G box unit are to be "Argenised" ( except Cylinder).
This Argenising is nothing but a ENAMEL BASE Aluminum painting without any under coat priming.
At manufacturing units, all the Aluminum componets (in this case our engine covers), after maching to the drawing, they were washed with some special methods & then Argenised.( But this kind of Argenising has been elminated & special " Heat Resistant Paint" is used in modern machines)
ps: Chrome plating to covers is mostly done by "Chopper Builders",
Leaving alone the pros & cons of Chrome plating, it is very difficult to do to components like engine & Gear box cases with intricate shapes & profiles by Conventional Plating techniques
