Default Chennai Gang Road trip - October 2011

Chennai Xbhp Road trip - October 2011

It's been long time since Chennai group had done a road trip. Here we go!

Some of us were thinking about doing a trip in the month of October. I know its way too far from now. However, planning in advance should not be an issue. This would give good time for us to plan accordingly.

There were suggestions doing Masinagudi/Ooty side so far. Thinking about the climatic conditions, would be really a nice run to the hills provided we do not have any major challenge.

As far as the dates are concerned, it is still in wide open to discuss the options. I would think 4 days road trip would be just right. Hmm... we can discuss in detail.

Well, having said this, I'm opening this thread for the members to discuss the various options pertaining to the ride.

So far members who have agreed:-
Bikerfas (Dinesh)
Sayhi2sai(Sai)
Ananth(Ananth)
Sunnyside_up!(Sunny)
SriramEfunds(Sriram)
Jairaman_12(Raman)

Moderators/Sunilg/Noor:- Kindy approve and move this discussion thread from Tourer to Xbhp Offline Section of this forum.

Put me in CONFIRMED for now, but what are the dates? Wifey's is already planning a week's trip from Sep 1 to 10 owing to Son's Pooja holiday's. So, sooner the dates are frozen, better the chance for me to fight for the dates. And I guess 4 days includes a Saturday & Sunday. BTW, I'm OK for any destination unless they're close by places like Yelagiri, Yercaud, Pondy.

I Propose : October : 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 or 7 - 8 - 9 - 10

Main reason : Money in hand after Salary

---------------------------------------------------------------

Jeep safari (if interested) in Avalanche, Upper Bhavani and Masinagudi can be done.

Steve - Expert in house naturalist - Awaiting your inputs

Need to collect funds and arrange for a resort by 15 September - Once the total count is accounted for.

Cheers!

Am sure you might know this. But, just a headsup regarding Avilanchi and Upper Bhavani in case you didnt know..

Entry to Avilanchi is restricted. But, the route is spectacular. There is a village called Emerald just before Avilanchi. Here you can explore the places and offroad to the river. Ask Praveen before going there. I missed it when I went there..

To go to Upper Bhavani you need to go to Manjur(10 to 15kms from Avilanchi). And Upper Bhavani is 30 kms from Manjur..The first 10kms, roads are okay. The next 20 is bad + offroad. It took me 1.5 hours to do this 30kms in rains with 2 or 3 stops. But the view is spectacular once again. And in Upper Bhavani, there is only one guest house. Until you reach here you wont have sight of the reservoir. And here they dont allow photography. In order to stay here you need to book it in advance by calling/emailing Manjur EB office. I was in a hurry and moreover not in a mood to stay, so I returned and didnt get the number ..

And if you end up visiting these places, dont ever return downhill on this side of the hill. Manjur to Karamadai is only 60kms. But the roads are the worst I have seen in sometime..Even if its longer, go to ooty and return via the normal route..
Finally there are no petrol bunks/lodges on this side of the hills, though they sell petrol in local shops in Manjur and Emerald for 70 to 75Rs.

It is during the month of October if you are mistaken for September.

Stupidity is always when it comes to office, leaves. I can understand. That's the reason why I have started now for October. So if interest please PLAN.

Thanks for the info.

I'm quite aware of it. Only confusion is the permits, do we need to take it for every one (by providing every one;s proof) or just 1 permit with all our names?

Anyway main plan is to stay in masinagudi and relax.. We will see how it goes. Hope you would fly down from Sydney with your Australian girlfriend
