Hero Motor Corp (HMC) earlier known as Hero Honda has unveiled two new products in London. The two products unveiled are the Impulse (150 cc) dirt bike and the Maestro (110 cc scooter).

These two products will carry the world’s No.1 two wheeler maker into the future in India as well as abroad. The price and launch period of the Impulse and Maestro are yet to be announced.

HMC plans to enter 30 international markets in the near future. HMC will continue selling the present Hero Honda models in India.

1)Hero Impulse

The Hero Impulse is a dirt bike that looks similar to the Honda NXR 150 Bros as expected and will be an instant attention grabber on the road. The Impulse is powered by a 149.2 cc, single cylinder, carbureted air-cooled engine that makes, 13.8 bhp of max power and 13.6 Nm of max torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

It has been built on a tubular steel frame and its silencer and heat shield run on the right side of the bike’s seat. The dirt bike has a high ground clearance of 244 mm, telescopic front suspension (180 mm travel) and a mono-shock rear suspension (150 mm travel). It sports a 240 mm disc brake at the front and a 110 mm drum brake at the rear.

2)Hero Maestro

The Hero Maestro scooter is powered by a 109 cc engine and comes with an automatic gearbox that features a combined braking system (CBS) as seen on the Honda Activa. The design of the Maestro resembles the Honda Aviator.

It is clear that HMC wants to marks its new brand with the unveiling of these unique products. The Hero Impulse bike is more of a life-style product and does not target the mass market, while the Hero Maestro is a typically urban commuter centric bike. The Maestro will compete with scooters like the Honda Aviator, Suzuki Access 125 and Mahindra power scooters (Rodeo, Duro, and Flyte).

HMC’s strength lies in its rural network and its brand popularity (Hero Honda) garnering sales of more than 5 lakh motorcycles every month consistently. Will the new bikes help HMC maintain its leadership position? Share your views!
