Guys, a new SMS Channel has been created for xBhp Hyderabad.
The last had been created by Kriss. But sadly it cant be used for sending messages anymore. Hence a new Channel has been created by Prabhakar.
Please subscribe to this channel for updates on the latest happenings and rides in Hyderabad.

This service is absolutely free. However an active google account is needed for it. Please choose the Start time and End time according to your convenience. However the ideal timing would be 5AM to 11.30PM. Since the channel would be moderated there is NO chance of SPAM.

After subscribing make sure that you change your settings to receive the channel updates from morning till night ie Start Time & End Time which you can change in settings.

Google is binding in many ways. First everyone needs a google account. Second - only the creator can administer it - no chance of multiple people administering it.

I think it was propsed earlier to have a common account and the credentials to be shared with few members. so that there is always a backup if one is not able to send the message.

I apologize the creation of a SMS channel without informing other senior members.
However I believe some 1 needs to take the first step so I took the initiative.
The only reason I took the initaitive when Rahul Discussed about the SMS channel was the ease of informing members.
Yes as KP said only people with Google accounts can have it.
But any one with an email can create it in 30 seconds.
However it is becoming increasingly difficult to inform all the members about the events by calling & manually sending the SMS through Phone.
Members who are trying to do it are incurring expenses also.

if not google then may be we can use the free sms service offered by websites wherein anyone of us can send out a bulk message to the number in the address book.

Some of the providers of this service are way2sms, 160by2 etc.,

what we can do is create a separate group for xBhp members in our address book and as and when there is a g2g or something, we can inform our fellow members about the same.

What other members have to do is post their mobile no.s so that they can be added to the database of the address book.

This can be done by any user.. so if one member is unable to inform others about a meet..other's can help out.

what say guys ?

my hod used this method to inform us about various issues be it projects, internals etc ., :-)

The Issue with this is U need to compromise on Privacy.
These Websites send the information of the registered Users to Database companies which sell them to companies which require them.
Due to this U'll be getting too many unwanted calls from marketing companies.

may be that is true to some extent. personally i haven't had this headache

but what you said could pose problems in the form of unwanted calls.

I had this headache before.
I got all my numbers including landlines in DND list.
I registered a complaint against a Bank for violating it.
Then they advised not to register my name in any websites like these.
My Phone was registered by a friend in one of these free SMS websites from where the DATA was sold to that bank.
After that I'm very careful about these websites.
Please refrain from using these websites.
