Tip of the Day

Hot days – molten Tar = slip/slide

Hot days create more than one problem. Tarmac roads with a greater than normal proportion of tar mixed in their making is one. The extra targets soft and gooey. Brake hard on it or take a fast turn and the bike can slide as easily on it as on spilt oil. So watch it.

Default Riding Skills Workshop G2G (Delhi) - Sunday: December 14, 2008

The get together this time is going to be a little different, I believe. After a fair amount of discussions and a poll (refer to THIS thread), the following plan/ agenda for the upcoming G2G has been finalized.

    Date - December 14, 2008 (Sunday)

Time - [EDIT: 0800 hrs - at the destination]

Meeting Place - It seems everyone would be reaching the destination directly. However, I would be at the starting of the DND toll road, at about 0745 hrs, from where me and a couple of other members would ride together. If anyone wants, he/ she is most welcome to join us; it would be good to ride together to the final destination.

Destination - Thanks to Old Fox (xBhp ID: Old Fox), the idea is to ride to a particular destination where we get ample time (and space) to discuss and perhaps practice some real motorcycling. The following is the address of the place we would be converging finally on.

    B-39,
    Sector 57, Noida.
    U.P.

Agenda - As the name of the G2G suggests, this is going to be a riding workshop whereby we get to learn things regarding motorcycles and perhaps even how do be a better motorcyclist. There can be theory and practical sessions as well, whereby theory classes can involve things like drawings, etc. on a white board (if it is available). On the other hand practicals can involve things like learning how to remove and fix wheels, puncture repairs, brake service, engine tuning etc. to actual riding lessons (in our case turning).

We can share information and knowledge about bike geometry, tyres, roads, friction perspective on traction, etc, although it does not have to concern turning and leaning only and could be any aspect of motorcycling in general.

P.S: This time let's keep it to plain and simple motorcycling and not veer on to things such as movies, clothes and chicks! In short - let's keep it focussed.

Directions to reach the destination - I would personally love to meet at a pre-determined spot and perhaps ride to our 'destination'. However, here are the directions for the same.

    1. From Atta Chowk: When coming from Delhi you hit Atta Chowk. Continue straight past Noida DPS, NTPC and Shopprix Mall. Just beyond the Shopprix Mall take left. Carry on straight till you see an Indial Oil petrol pump on your left. There is a cut in the road divider bang opposite the petrol pump. Turn right from there. Continue straight again till you get to a T-point. On your right will be a company called 'Steria'. On your left would be 'Writer's Hut' [destination for the G2G].

    2. When coming from the DND: Descend the DND till you get to Rajnigandha Chowk red light. Carry on straight, past any number of red-lights and diversions till you get to a T-point in the end. Grey flats can be seen head-on here. Take right and ride past two red-lights. Past the second signal, on your right will be the petrol pump I wrote about in the above point. Take left and ride on till the T-point. Steria on the right and Writer's Hut on the left. (appox dist from Rajnigandha Chowk to T-point - about 3 kms).

Note - A special thanks to Old Fox for providing all the information that you see in this thread. Also, since he requested to be there at the destination at about 8am or so, hence the meeting time has been kept at 0715 hrs. whereby we could start for the destination from Delhi, between say 0730 - 0740hrs. and ride together to our destination, to reach a little later than 0800hrs.

Also, please provide suggestions on the meeting place (Chanakyapuri or dhaba or perhaps some place else).

    Thanks,
    -Aryan

    EDIT
One suggestion for all of us who are going to attend the workshop, this Sunday.

All attendees would, doubtlessly, need some refreshments. Old Fox would be taking care of the tea & soft drinks. But, we would need something to eat apart from the beverages. Biscuits, chips, possibly samosas, something sweet perhaps, etc. So, for the same, we would also need disposable cups and plates.

So, this should be a contributory meet whereby each attendee contributes, say Rs. 50/- each. And we also delegate a few jobs like arranging for disposable cups and plates, some eatables et al to willing members.

Also, please do post your confirmations in this thread ASAP as we would need a head count for the same.

That remains to be decided; by Friday evening you would get to know the meeting place.
