A range figure can tell you how far an electric scooter might travel. What it cannot tell you is how much you will enjoy the journey while getting there. Do you have to nurse the throttle, avoid every enthusiastic start and spend the entire ride watching the battery indicator? Those were the questions we wanted to explore with the Suzuki e-ACCESS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our time with it included traffic and spirited riding, giving us a useful opportunity to see how its battery consumption compared with the promise on paper. The result turned out to be encouraging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

First, a little clarity on three letters that can create rather large expectations: IDC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IDC stands for Indian Driving Cycle, a prescribed riding pattern used under controlled test conditions. It provides a common basis for measuring range. Out on the road, the variables keep changing. Your speed, traffic, load, gradients and even the weather influence how much energy a journey requires. The certified figure is therefore a benchmark against which to understand your experience, rather than a distance every ride will necessarily achieve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Suzuki quotes a certified range of 95 km for the e-ACCESS under AIS-040. In our real-world ride, which included traffic and spirited riding, we got 75 km with 6% battery remaining, with the display indicating another 5 km of range. This suggests an expected total range of approximately 80 km per charge under our riding conditions, around 84% of the certified figure. While we did not run the battery completely flat, this gives a practical indication of the range available without having to nurse the throttle throughout the journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What pleased us was the context behind that result. We were able to include the kind of riding that makes a journey feel like our own, with the changing pace of traffic and the temptation to enjoy an open stretch. Seeing consumption remain within touching distance of the certification benchmark under those conditions gave the figure on the brochure a much more relatable meaning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For someone considering the switch to electric, that is useful reassurance. You want to understand how a scooter fits into your day: the office run, the return journey and the occasional detour. Our experience provided a positive first indication of that everyday usability, while leaving sensible room for variation between riders and routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Range is only one part of the battery conversation. The other is SOC, or State of Charge, which is simply the percentage of charge remaining. As that number falls, the question shifts from how far you can go to how the scooter will respond along the way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At low battery levels, confidence comes from knowing your scooter will still respond when you need it. Suzuki says the e-ACCESS maintains consistent power delivery even at 10% charge, helping it retain responsive pickup in city traffic. Compared with scooters that noticeably limit performance as the battery drops, this can make the final stretch of a commute more reassuring. Suzuki\u2019s engineering aims to manage the remaining battery power and keep the riding experience predictable, a practical benefit beyond the headline range figure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hardware reflects that urban focus. A fixed 3.072 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery supplies a motor rated at 4.1 kW and 15 Nm. Three riding modes offer different approaches to the commute: Eco prioritises efficiency with a 55 km\/h speed limit, while Ride A and Ride B provide the listed 71 km\/h maximum. Ride A uses stronger regenerative braking; Ride B offers lighter regeneration. Reverse assist adds convenience when backing out of a parking space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For us, this is where specifications become relevant to everyday riding. The choice of regeneration lets the rider adapt the scooter\u2019s deceleration to their preference, while the reverse function addresses a very ordinary inconvenience. These are features that have a practical purpose each time you leave home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The chassis uses 12-inch wheels, telescopic front suspension and a swingarm-type rear suspension. A front disc and rear drum work with CBS. At 122 kg, with a 765 mm seat height and 160 mm ground clearance, the package is aimed squarely at everyday scooter duties. Those dimensions provide useful context, although comfort and ease of reaching the ground will naturally depend on the rider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Practical equipment includes a colour TFT display with smartphone connectivity, keyless operation, LED lighting, USB charging and underseat storage. Suzuki quotes approximately 6 hours 20 minutes for a full charge using the portable charger, or 1 hour 12 minutes for a 0\u201380% fast charge. With a fixed battery, convenient access to a charging point where you park is an important part of making ownership work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The LFP battery also reflects Suzuki\u2019s emphasis on durability. Long-term reliability will need to prove itself over years of use, but it belongs in the buying decision alongside range, charging access and daily convenience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What stayed with us after the ride was how reasonably close the expected range came to Suzuki\u2019s certified claim while allowing for traffic and spirited riding. That made the e-ACCESS\u2019s efficiency feel relevant to the way a scooter is actually used, something rarely seen in its counterparts. Add Suzuki\u2019s focus on maintaining predictable performance at low charge, and the appeal extends beyond distance alone. It is about making everyday electric riding feel familiar and reassuring, from the beginning of the journey to the final stretch home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
