Honestly you guys are really underrating fitness over machine. It will not matter how much great a bike you have if you are unfit you will be slower than someone with a higher fitness and even an average or simple bike. The advantage of better bikes only comes into play at much higher speeds or steep climbs. At slow puttering speeds of 10-15kmph any bike is fine.

this is the "speed" I get no matter how hard I ride... I totally agree, "fitness" is important but it is not only thing... otherwise why there are so many sizes, shapes, types of bikes??? there would have been just one type... thats it... all other things would be dependent on "fitness" only

I think fitness and type of bike complement each other, I am not talking about "extreme and extraordinary people and bikes"... all I want is the minimum "fitness", "brevet" capable bike to participate in 200,300,400,600. These events are not for "speed" but still they have maximum "time limit" and I want to prepare to be in that "time limit", at least for now...

Look let me clarify.. And I again say its based on my experience on quite a few types of bikes, many types of rides and many brevets along with a PBP in 2011.
In the world of cycling the order is like this...
-fitness (overall stamina and ability to store energy, basically aerobic and anaerobic levels)
-training (how effectively have you trained for an event specific to its needs)
-energy economy (how efficient you are energy spending, and rejuvenation)
-bike (how good a bike is: i.e. Power transfer, wheels and frame, how it fits you, how is it tuned for the event specific)

Now no matter what you feel or how much you argue the above fact is not going to change.period. I had similar feelings earlier but I learnt it overtime.

Yes a good fitness and training will compliment any bike, good or average, but not the other way around; That's all I can say and rest my case here.

I've already told you how you can progress for brevets.. Again someone else might say to simply jump in thinking 15kmhp is all they need for a brevet. Or you can Google and find out many great training plans for brevets made by sensible riders.

So at last I can only say, Why don't you go ahead and get one of those bikes as suggested above, get into brevets and find out for yourself how things pan out. For all you know it might be all very different for you than what is usually the case in cycling.

So, yeah I feel the lighter & better quality components do make a world of difference to biking.

The things u said above about Hero hawk & MTB can be done by very very few people in real world.
Yes it does make a difference.

NO it doesn't make as much of a difference as your fitness.

That is the point being made which is being lost on you me thinks!

I will try to cover 100km under 5 hours and if possible, 200km under 11 hours on current one first!

It will not harm anyway but increase my fitness, which I certainly don't have enough for these events...

Ah ha! Just the man i was looking for. Below are a couple of screenshots of two very short rides i did. Both the rides were done in the morning, within a span of a week. Same route, weather, rider and everything.

The only difference between the two rides is the cycle. One is done on my off-roader and the other on my hyper-sports

This is as direct a comparison i can give of how much difference a bike can make. Apparently 2 kmph for an unfit cyclist like me

This is my last uploaded ride.... since I've yet not loaded my last week's ride.

While in no way can I compare different bike genre since I only have road bikes. but even there are strains of roadbikes/ different setups which I have, carbon-road race, steel-endurance, allu-race & a Fixe.

As for longest rides on strava I've about 200km

Although the longest I've ridden is about 680km in an unsuccessful attempt for PBP but data only for 578km got recorded.
Anyway attaching one of my favourite 600km route which I managed in about 30hrs total & was back to bombay before the finish time . It was esp enjoyable because a previous attempt on this very route left in me tatters by 40hrs & I dragged myself to the finish, but the 2nd attempt I threw my old time out of the window .

Wow. You do knock back some good pace!

I like the name of your ride "Snob Roadies ride" That is one thing i have always felt, cyclists are a bunch of elitists, especially roadies

Have you by any chance ridden at the TfN by any chance?

You did a 200 Brevet on a Fixie. That would have been suicide!

Yeah, as Monk said..200 brevet on fixie is indeed something. That looks like a Mumbai- Charoti-Mumbai 200 ?? For returning back on 52 X 18 , your quads must have been super strong. I even walked in some those stretches during Chikli 400 on NH 8 while coming back to Mumbai.

Also was surprised, that Strava is active even from 2011, that is while I'm still in grad riding some bulky bicycle covering a max of 15-20 kms.
