Default Cycling in my hometown Udupi

    Prologue:
A serene place with nice roads with cool wind blowing on the face, how about a bicycle ride ?

    Motivation:
My hometown near Udupi is surrounded with beaches, rivers, backwaters, beautiful hills and waterfalls.
I always wanted to have a vehicle at my ancestral place when I make any visit there.
Most of these places are in range of 25 - 50 kms away, meant they can be covered in 2 to 5 hours on a decent bicycle.
So I decided to buy a used cycle here in Bangalore and carry to hometown via Volvo.

    Getting it there:

So quick search the internet go me to BOTS Bicycle Marketplace India - Second hand bicycles, spares, accessories and Rental bicycles! which is a ideal place for buying or renting used bicycles.
I bought a Schwinn Frontier Sport, a MTB which is ideal for my needs.

First thing was to get the bicycle checked for smooth functioning, so got it inspected at local bike store. Got it ride ready so that I will not have any issues while riding.
Booked a Saturday (less rush compared to Friday) evening ticket in Airavat Volvo bus. Rode to majestic bus stand which is a 12 kms from home.
Spoke to the bus driver to let the cycle be loaded as luggage. I removed the front tyre and loaded comfortably.
The bus conductor charged 3 luggage units which is 80X3 = Rs. 240

Next day morning, I alighted at my hometown, unloaded the bicycle from luggage rack, a quick inspection and all's good.
Fixed the wheel back to the fork. Rode home which is 500 meters away. Mission accomplished

    The First Ride:

So here is the photo-log of my first ride which was about 54Kms along a beach side road. The weather and temperature was just perfect to ride

It rained intermittently to make all the effort worthy of my the first ride.

I could cover 40Kms in 3 hours on a basic cycle with many photo breaks.
With such scenic surroundings and frequent breaks anyone can cover this distance. You don't need to be a fitness freak.
The tall trees provides cover from scorching sun, otherwise also there is enough tree.
The terrain is roller coaster, comprising of few easy-to-climb hills (~100 to 200 meters long) followed by equally pleasant downward stretches.
With some practice one can cover 30%-50% of upwardly distance if momentum gained by the downward stretch is used effectively.

This was the ride which convinced me to have a better cycle to do more rides, longer and faster.
Hope to cover more rides in future:-)
