  1. The Sitting Posture on a Motorcycle

    by , 02-20-2014 at 08:37 PM
The 'sitting' posture on a motorcycle is a compromise between either loading up the back or loading up the wrists. And this 'loading' is defined more by the relative position of the foot-pegs than the distance between the handlebar and the seat. The one other major contributing element is the front-end ride height.

The higher the speed at which a certain bike is expected to travel through most of its running life, the more is the torso rotated forwards and feet moved backwards. This ...
  2. Handlebars and Steering torque

    by , 02-20-2014 at 08:22 PM
I guess I am a trifle late with my inputs about motorcycle geometry but then seeing the kind of confusion prevailing on this thread, I believe this post is justified. Lets take a look at these elements in a way that is understandable to anyone keen enough to learn. I'll use technical terms only where there are no substitute words available.

Motorcycle steering geometry has four principle aspects that have maximum influence over the bike's handling.

  3. Riding in a strong Cross-wind

    by , 12-14-2012 at 08:21 PM
Riding in cross-winds is a problem on motorcycles as there's a lopsided force acting on the bike from one side which tends to roll it over. All pretty unnerving and all the more so if the wind is gusty and not steady. nevertheless, the motorcycle's geometry makes it inherently stable even under such conditions provided of course you let it do so.

  4. Full Solar Eclipse - 22nd July 2009

    by , 12-14-2012 at 05:07 PM
This coming July 22nd, India shall witness a spectacular cosmic phenomenon. A total Solar Eclipse. The totality though will not be visible over the entire country but near-totality is just as spectacular to witness and experience. I have a small software (Planetary Lunar and Stellar Visibility version 3.1.0 and can be downloaded from www.alcyone.de) that provides a lot of interesting information about our visible stellar bodies. The pictures below give a fair idea of the spread, totality percentage, ...

  5. Multiple two-wheeler fatalities at Underpass in Delhi - Tramlining the culprit?

    by , 12-14-2012 at 04:51 PM
Of late, there's been a spate of fatalities at the Moolchand Crossing Underpass on Delhi's Ring Road. Nothing sinister about this road except that in preparation for the upcoming Commonwealth Games, most roads are being spruced up. This particular underpass is being given the 'mastic Tarmac' treatment wherein 2 inch thick tiles of rubberised tar tiles are glued to the existing tarmac surface. The problem lies in the fact that this work is done in stages and it creates a two-inch thick height difference, ...
