    Cool Which skin cream

    Dear friends and kind strangers,

I cannot keep myself off my new (well, used) Enfield Classic 500, but see now that I have tanned horribly. I don't mind (and even like to) turn a couple of shades darker, but now I see that I am thoroughly roasted.
Moreover, I am not a big fan of 'closed' helmets, so prefer to use an open-face helmet with sunglasses. Now because of the 'patterned' tanning, I look like this guy: http://images.sodahead.com/polls/000...ll_xlarge.jpeg

So tanning is one thing. However, a friend recently gave me a fright by reminding me about skin cancer being another scary fallout of prolonged exposure.

Please advice on what skin care products I can use. I ask this here because I have never given thought in the past about this.

    Thanks!
    Rohan

(message to mods: either the 'search' tool isn't working, or there are no threads that address this issue. I used search terms 'skin' and 'sunscreen')

First off, prolonged exposure to sun indeed tans and causes wrinkles but by using a good SPF cream over 25 and 50 (the more the better) you can protect yourself from harsh rays. One way or the other the heat, infrared rays etc UVA B are all gonna have a negative impact on your skin. But riding a motorcycle fully geared up, almost instantly saves you from a free tan, most of the times. It's almost a good practice to ride motorcycle with proper riding gears, which also helps protect from heat and wind blast also gives you prime crash protection.

    Cheers!

    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

It is one of the reaons why true (read geared) bikers never have to worry about tanning . A good full-face helmet, riding gloves and mesh-jacket takes care even in the harshest of conditions. Lets just say - its a side benefit of being geared up

Just FYI - Open face helmets or cap-type hemlemts offer very little protection in case of a fall in comparison to a full face helemt because in maximum cases its the jaw and forehead which bears the brunt.

A full face helmet is any day better than all these stuffs. . . Else how about balaclava face mask. . ? Seems a better idea if you are not going for full face helmet with riding gloves and a jacket is sufficient enough to prevent you from tanning. . .

PS: I don't know about these creams, so giving you an alternative. . .

@princesirohi. Now all of us know one of the reasons why your wife is so happy with you.
@Rohan Arthur. I was not sure that I had seen this as a proper hyperlink on the forum so clicked to see if it really existed. And lo and behold, it actually did and not only that, there were contributions to it.

My friend, why bother about a tan on your face if you or even your nearest and dearest ones cannot recognise it after a crash while wearing an open face helmet? Most of your nose and all of your lower jaw would be a mangled mess so having a tan on the small exposed area around your cheekbones would tantamount to zilch. Seriously, I would worry more about life than a tan.

The friends and kind strangers in @B7ACKTHORN, @Divya Sharan, @princesirohi, @nelson_sanjoy, @Rakesh Rok and @Aniruruddha Shinde HAVE been kind, especially prince who seems to have taken much efforts to research the subject for you which makes me feel that you have not done one iota of work for yourself about it and thought nothing of opening a thread about it.

Rohan, I agree this is an enthusiast forum. I also agree that all members have the privilege of opening threads and the mods have the right to approve it or otherwise (not that I agree with their decision always; they are human and so, err at times). At the same time, members create a reputation about themselves by the content of what they post here and more importantly, why they do so. And as time passes, members view one another thru the lens of this reputational brand that they build up over the course of their posts. I myself got a kick when I asked a question whose answer I would have got by being a bit less lazy and then I saw the forum for what it is - a quasi professional platform for motorcycles. Period.

Perhaps, asking one of your married friends' wives (presuming that you are single and if you are not, and are still asking this question on the net, then, well, I cannot express my thoughts in an adequately polite manner) would have given you a much more wholesome answer.

Thanks, everyone, for your kind inputs. I am loving this community! It does seem like the full face helmet is an urgent purchase I need to make!
However, your inputs about sunscreens is also helpful because I do a lot of hiking and loafing about in the sun. I am appalled that I haven't given this thought all these years.

I tried a couple of creams last week but they smell flowery/fruity Not to my liking. Anyway, will continue research based on your inputs.

    @icemang:
    1. I really do think your post was a little harsh and maybe even bordering on sexist. Are only women supposed to know about sunscreens? Why, do men not get skin cancer? Do men not tan and get horrible sunburns?
    2. I also do a lot of hiking, and was foolish enough to not think about skin protection all this while, hence my post question.
    3. Open face helmets or not, is a debate that you may kindly lead me to on this forum. I appreciate your concern, and thank you for leading me to discussions about this topic.
    4. This thread is posted in 'Coffee Lounge' (I had misplaced it in 'Tourer' earlier, but one of the mods kindly moved it here). It does say 'off topic' here, I checked.
    5. Frankly, I don't care too much about 'reputation'. I follow discussions, post sometimes, and try to say sensible things. If I see someone saying something that I think is senseless, I certainly don't bash them over it, unless they are stepping on my toes.

That's the main reason men don't go for these stuffs, seriously, I hate these kind of creams. . . Try coconut oil instead of that, keeps your skin from drying/may be even sunburns, read it somewhere. . . I too hate these creams, so while applying to my head daily in the morning, I apply a little on my hands if I find some rashes/sunburns on my hands, try it, you won't feel the same like with creams, it just dries off and you feel normal and doesn't smell any flowery/fruity as well , just give it a go. . .

    1. I really do think your post was a little harsh and maybe even bordering on sexist. Are only women supposed to know about sunscreens? Why, do men not get skin cancer? Do men not tan and get horrible sunburns? Yes that's why we are differentiated as women and men, our tastes are entirely different, while they cannot go out without applying so many creams, if not all at least many, we boys don't care much about our beauty as much as they do for theirs. . .
    2. I also do a lot of hiking, and was foolish enough to not think about skin protection all this while, hence my post question. As I said coconut oil works best for all, else try out full sleeve clothing and also wrap your head with with some what they call mufflers or wear a balcalva as well while hiking. . .
    3. Open face helmets or not, is a debate that you may kindly lead me to on this forum. I appreciate your concern, and thank you for leading me to discussions about this topic. Open face helmets, wait I dint get this question , so chuck it. . . Best is get yourself a full face helmet . . .
    4. This thread is posted in 'Coffee Lounge' (I had misplaced it in 'Tourer' earlier, but one of the mods kindly moved it here). It does say 'off topic' here, I checked. Yup I guess so it was there in some other thread and now it's moved here, forget it, chill . . .

My points in BOLD . . . Hope it helps, errr at least to some extent. . .

Please have a look at this, hope it's useful to you for going for full face helmets, http://riderzone.in/full-face-helmet/. . .
