    Default Getting fined for nothing

I own a yamaha r15. I commute 60 kms daily via NH 66, to Trivandrum city. I have been doing this for a couple of years and always have kept my records and papers clean. There's a lot of highway patrol and they usually and my bike attracts a lot of attention from the police, just because it looks like a sports bike. Till this date, nobody ever fined me or anything.

Last week, while I was riding, at almost 55 kmph, through an open stretch of the highway, a policeman pulled me over. He started the conversation very aggressively. He yelled at me for not stopping, to which I replied, 'I actually stopped sir, why are you mad at me?'

Next he verbally abused me a lot and asked for various papers, interestingly he asked me to show pollution paper before he asked for anything else.i had all the papers or at least attested copies of them, so later he blamed me for not carrying original of RC book, to which I replied, its stated in the law that, I have the attested copy so I just have to produce the originals within a week. Again he verbally abused me

I had a friend of mine as pillion with me, mean while he was begging the other policeman, there were three of them, to leave us alone and we didn't commit any thing wrong

Atlast the policeman said I was over speeding, that's why I was pulled over. I asked for proof and he threatened me to take us to the station and charge us with something. Then my friend agreed he would pay the fine and paid 300 rupees for overspeeding

He suggested I should stay calm as it was his last date to pay his exam fees and I have a visa process going on- he said it's wise to avoid a criminal record, as these guys could charge us with God knows what charges

While I was there, they fined two other people with 100 RS fine, for not having helmet and papers

Is it my bad so that I had all the papers?

I didn't want to go to further action because of the Visa process. I'm worried that they could really mess it up

Unfortunately things like this happen. They take advantage of other people's weakness. In your case the visa process and your friends exam fee.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

These things used to happen before in Goa , but ever since parikar had come into power (not this time, the time before that ), he made very strict laws for fines, all fines had signatures of police officers who fined , and a lot more details ,also prices of fines are fixed and if caught getting bribed (the police officer would loose his job.. 2 of them did some years back. I heard.. not 100% sure if they actually lost or just got transferred)

Please always carry all papers and wear at least a good helmet.

It was just a bad day for you with a hungry begging corrupt cop. Chuck it and move on. Seeing youngsters such retarded policemen think that they can be pressurized (which is true to a big extent - almost every youngster is time pressed for something even if not guilty).

When I was younger, I was fined Rs 1800 when I countered a policeman claiming I was over speeding. I denied paying him 300 as demanded since I wasn't even doing 30 when he said I was doing 55+ in a 50 kmph zone. Then this fellow had the galls to press the following charges:
    1. Overspeeding
    2. Not co-operating with the police.
    3. No PUC (never demanded from me)
    4. No DL (I always carry my DL)
    5. JH bike used in KA : no taxes paid, so Rs 600 odd as fine (I'm one the the very few who has legit LTT paid and I carry the challan daily)

He said - either pay Rs 1800 or collect your bike from the police station/court on Monday (This was a Saturday).
My weakness : can't leave my bike at the thieves' house, err.. police station for 2 days/nights.

Paid him the spot fines (over-speeding, no DL ~ Rs 800 IIRC) after much arguing about fines and their laws and then I was allowed to go.

P.S - Spot fines are those fine amounts which have to be paid at the spot.

    * No Insurance - not a spot fine (you have 2 weeks to show papers and pay a nominal fine for not carrying papers, usually 50 rupees)
    * No PUC - not a spot fine (you have 4 weeks to show papers and pay a nominal fine for not carrying papers)
    * No LTT - not a spot fine but the bike may get impounded till LTT is paid.
    * Loud horns - spot fine
    * Over speeding - spot fine
    * DUI (alcohol) - spot fine
    * No DL - spot fine
