Default social responsibilities of a biker...

As very often than not, ( rather, i should say never), we bikers are never taken in the sense of being any good to the society.

Be it the group meets (g2gs) which our parents take it as a couple of unruly idiots meeting to pull some place to shreds,
    or
The group rides which are often veiwed as just a promotional events (especially by the onlookers who never mind to inquire the reason anyway).
    or
Take any of our weekend rides which are rather taken as a couple of rich bada$$ people who are just painting some place red and have nothing to do anyway.
    or
Even if a person rides solo with the riding gear along, he/she gets labeled as a showoff idiot, by the very same people who ask their children to ride safely.

The problem as I have figured out as yet is not that we people are bad (even though, at times we can be a bit irresponsible also).
Niether is it that we do not do good things often.
and the movies also do not promote our cause.
heck, even bike manufacturers untill recently, did not have many advertisements with the basic safety gear (helmet) in place.
and the holiganism of the pulser ads are not helping either.
The new add to zmr is a step further.

The problem is we as a human race, never take things seriously unless it happens and devastates our myth that we are invincible. even i was the one who never used a helmet (the other safety gear can then be expected to get no mention here). The frst time I fell, it was like " f^(k the other rider, it was his fault" so I never used the helmet again. second time, I became sceptical bout my riding when the next accident was withing days of the first. and the third time, hell broke loose and then I realised that I was a fool in thinking that "me and accidents are not made for each other"/ I was invincible. since the day I realised this, I have been a lot sensible rider (atleast I believe so) . Its not that I have not had any accidents after this due to my sensibilities or so but its just that the uncalculated risks have been minimised.
Most of us get the access to bikes when we cant handle our own lives forget the bikes. and not the ones that are a mere single digit bhp bikes ( actually the bhp of bike is not even related to how sensible you are and that not the point i want to put here). a seasoned biker will know where the limits of his bike / his own capabilities are and most riders rarely skip that. We insist on gears and every other stuff which essentailly make us believe that we are safe... but are we???

A good rider can corner at 80kmph.. but a newbee insane one will attempt it at 80 in the first time. its not that he will crash or this is not to be done. but the difference is that an seasoned rider will do that cornering when he knows that no one else is at risk whereas a newbee will not care about that. not that the newbees are always idiots but thats the adrenalin factor and the zeal to prove that he is as good as a seasoned one.

Good riding is abot caring not only for yourself but also about those who are not with you. Its something like, there is someone wating for you at home. Riding is not about having a good set of gears with xxx cornering capabilities or xxxxxx top speeds or about the zillion bhpees in your bike. its more about the feeling of doing something that you are happy with and at the same time, one is endangered. Riding is having a clarity of thought as to why its better to be safe than sorry.

now most of will be thinking that this is another post related to endosement of safety gears but it is not... read on for more...

Helmets are safe but the fact is that your field of view is restricted to the apperture of the visor, clouded by the clarity of the visor and the worst, you need to pay more attention to the rear view mirrors (since ur ears are no longer warning you of the traffic from rear), ur mind has to be trained to keep clarity in decisions u take. a small speck in the far horizon can be a zillon bhp superbike which can zap you unaware or can be a car which will need the road that you re hogging...
the pads/ jackets riding suits and what not are useless if they are oversize or undersize. The quality is very important also. One more problem is with the fact that in this race of life, anyone who is better than you is not easily digested. most ppl go in for a "oh fish what a suit" racing apparel just because someone whom u r jealous about owns one of those or if it makes you stand out in a croud of monkeys. the point is in logically thinking if you actually need one??

A thick leather jacket with a decent quality elbow and knee guards and a sport shoe is good enough for occasional trips and also a couple of slides on the tarmac. a superbike guy needs the proper suit cos he is bound to exceed his limits of controll on his hyperbike.

So what i want to put forward here is riding is like taking you first baby step daily!!!!u dont know whats in store for the ride!!! every ride is different!!! every day is different!!! its the decision making capability of the rider and the clarity of thought, and the sense to understand your own and your steeds limits before taking your step forward. If anything is missing, u have cooked an recipie for disaster and you should log on to www.i_have_a lot_of_balls_to_waste.com

So the next time you swing your leg over your bike, think twice before you twist that throttle, weather you are doing the riding in the right sense or not!!! Are you gonna be another mossiac painting on the road??? Is there anyone who will be happy if u return home alive in single piece??

And before u end the ride, help an stranded person on the road to find his way home. Stop when you see an elder cross the road or better still, Help them cross the road. Give somone a lift home (if its a babe then refer to this post--- the point is you can also help me). Dont shoot the person who accidently scratched your bike. Or just give the next door dog a ride on ur beloved bike. Do anything but Act responsibly. Society is where u gotta live so help someone.. U surely wont ever repent (except f the person is a stupid dog always waiting for your lift!!! ) .

There was a mistake on my part in approving this as HT. There are some set guidelines for Hard Torque section, which obviously I wasn't aware of and Ken Da later guided me. The corrective action has been taken and this topic has been moved out of Hard Torque section.

But good to see people wanting to write.

Dont be offended but do tell me how old are you...!

First and foremost, avoid typos and slang language ... there are a lot, and I repeat a LOT of malapropisms in the article!

By the end of the article I was still wondering if you did write what you intended to write! It started from "social responsibilities" and ended up as a "gear-preach" both the do's and the dont's and then you realised "oops" time to get back to the topic!

    Edit:
Mr. G! lol I am too tempted to use your dialogue :P
