Question Joel's kit worth it ??

guys i'm in a big confusion , i have a rtr 160 2009 and im bored with its power. joel gives 170 cc kit that gives 1.5-2 bhp more for 7000 rs approx . excuse if power figures wrong as no power figures given on raceconcepts site [really weird to not display any by joel as he so believes in facts and figures]

wouldn't it be more vfm to buy rtr 180 bore n piston to convert 160 to 180 as that costs so much less ?? what all we need to change to make rtr 160 to rtr 180 ??

also wont it be better to buy 190 cc kit than 170cc if price is same ? i hope no fitting issues . and if not what all parts to change to make 190 cc fit on 160 .

i would like to get some well explained answers as i don't have good knowledge in engine issues .

An engine's cc (cubic capacity) is determined by Bore and Stroke.

From RTR 160 to RTR 180, the bore is almost same (180 has only 0.5mm bigger bore).

It's the stroke that has been increased by a heavier 4 mm that resulted in 160 to 180cc. Changing the stroke measurement is not possible as it will involve crankshaft modifications, which are not feasible.
    So, your 160 can't be 180cc.

Joel's big bore kit for both 160 and 180 is the same kit, due to almost same Bore specs in both the bikes.
And this big bore will increase your Bore only, not the stroke.

Both 160 and 180 would be increased to 170 and 190cc respectively through the big bore kit, but stroke can't be changed.

Joel's kits are a good long term investment. I recommend you read some other review threads here...
Secondly, measuring power is really expensive as it involves a Dyno worth Lacs of rupees.
Thirdly, if you want more power, get the RTR exhaust. It will increase your power and mileage both.

    @ Jeanie

Plonking the RTR 180CC bore directly on the RTR 160 is a straight NO NO. Lots of internals including the Crank are different between RTR 160 and 180.

But TVS can completely covert your RTR 160 engine to RTR 180, but not sure about the cost. (Should be like a bomb)

and I feel thats the reason Joel has 170CC for RTR 160 separate and 190CC for RTR 180, else he could have given both for an RTR 160 itself.

ok so i understood rtr 180 bore is just .5 mm wider than 160 . then can the 190 cc kit be installed on 160 with compatible crankshaft and tci unit etc ? what else needed .

anyone know exact parts to make rtr 160 to stock 180 with approx prices if possible .

Its not about the 0.5mm extra increase in piston diameter. This is a different piston and kit altogether. Well, those who use it, please fill in.

The bore is irrelevant here! RTR 180 has 4mm Bigger Stroke than RTR 160, and majorly that's why it is 180cc.
And you CAN NOT change stroke because that will need a crankshaft change too...

And a crankshaft change might require a change of crankcase too, which might turn too expensive. Better get a RTR 180 itself.

    You're trying to do this:

Until you don't achieve a 4 mm bigger stroke, you can't make your bike 180cc and hence, Joel's Big Bore kit will make it 170cc only. For more performance, get the exhaust from Joel.

    Just a Question,

Not sure why changing the crank case while both RTR 160 and 180 share the same Crank case??? I mean the same Part Numbers.

    I see. I wasn't aware of that.

I thought the differently positioned Crankshaft in RTR 180 due to the extra 4mm in stroke might result in a new crankcase.

    Anyways, thanks for the info.

Blah Blah Bleh Bleh Blooh Blooh asides... the big bore for the RTR160 is so awesome that I have an extra pair in my bed (Courtesy one Mr Gopi aka Razorblades who quit biking!)

The big bore in itself gives you a nice little speed bump.... and once you have tasted that, it wouldnt be long enough before you start starving and saving money for the FFE!
