    Default The Super Street Pulsar...

The story begins November 29, went down to the basement and I got on my bike and that sad feeling of monotony and adjustment that one gets when they get used to stock power, a sadness overcame me, and I knew there was only one solution, to poke and prod as much as I could and squeeze every last pony out of my 220. Got on the phone with Joel and asked him if we could get the once the fastest Indian to take her title back, the familiar confident and fun sounding Joel was enthu and so was I, I took around a month from Jan 5th to get the funds ready and on the 4 of Feb the work began #ProjectUhura was born.

    Day 1 (Feb 3).
Arrived from Chennai at the ungodly hour of 1130 PM, no work was to be done today :P

    Day 2 (Feb 4).
    The bike was stripped,

    Day 4 (Feb 6).
Back to Joels shop to upjet to size 130. Bike ran a bit hot last night due to break in and the lean tune, so with the upjet should run better more fuel = a cooler engine and safer burn as compared to a lean one, then by 1230 same day with some minor tuning I was of to the N.I.C.E road to go up and down and break in the engine with slight increments in Rev limits.First 100 kilometers it was 5000 RPM, then from 100-250 it was 5500, further 250-400 it was 6500 RPM and then I changed the oil and slowly climbed the rev range, a slightly hard break in, but I feel it was best . Throughout I did small upper rev range bursts, for minimal time, as heating and cooling would help it (personal opinion and personal experiences are yet to say otherwise).

    Day 5 (Feb 7).
The final tune was made rich for my ride back to Chennai as we couldnt predict the tune changes with different temp and elevation, Joel also showed me how to adjust the tune on my own, and the Exhaust was installed and I tanked up and headed for Chennai. From Chennai to Bangalore 336 kms I completed in 3 hours and 37 Minutes excluding my McDonalds MacMaharaja and Fries xD. Through the journey I rode around the 90-120 range and made minimal to WOT throttle changes frequently, all I could keep thinking was the torque, Oh My God its like the bike had transformed, she was effortlessly holding 115, I pushed the limit and held 130 for a good 15 minutes and didn't wanna go past that as the wind blast was pretty significant and was getting irritating. Over taking saw no gear shifts just WOT and was dealt with zero trouble. On the ride to Chennai the Mileage figure I got was 32 Kmpl. Dont ask me how, I was pretty taken aback cause my stock bike gave 35.

    Feb 11th

Ive completed 1500 Kilometers. So time for a ride report. I had to make the bike slightly richer, as she was running lean at the 3rd needle position from the top. My riding style.. umm isnt what most would call conservative :P, After my first oil change I rode mercilessly my bike spends most of her time above 5K rpm city, highway, basements doesnt matter, and so far she is holding up stellarly, my clutch was burnt out from before the mods, and now with the uprated power the clutch is just crying in every gear she slips, so next is a clutch change and fork oil seal repair (Someone say wheelies :P)
Update, at night while tooling around the Thiruvanmiyur beach I went to pull the clutch to shift down and the lever was harder than the brake lever. Shocked I pulled to the side, and went through all the possible faults, and then started kicking myself for not changing the clutch when I should have, the extra stress probably pushed it to breaking point. Limped the 230 back home and crashed out.

    Feb 12th

Woke up and got on the bike, forgot the clutch was buggered, and decided to ride the bike without the clutch LIKE A BOSS. So pushed the bike till about 5kmph while the engine was on and in neutral and dropped into first at around 5 kmph and from then kept quick shifting up and down :P. Went to BAJAJ ASC, and they said they could give me an appointment on Friday so I took it, and made sure he had the parts in stock (Clutch assembly full, gasket, and Oil {Motul 7100}) and rode back home the same way :O.

So far 1602 kms she goes, she really goes. Stock CBR250R was no match even with the slipping clutch. Mileage is around 32-35 with mixed riding conditions, and so far every cold start is a dream one thumb and she rumbles to life, no choke required and really so far there really isnt much more I can say coz I havent experienced it enough.

The mods are straightforward, the way to get them reliable is a long and tedious process. these past 2 weeks have really opened my eyes, sitting down and examining all the parts that puts a smile on my face everytime I twist the throttle. The claims of insane tractability and huge power bumps are very visible in a finely tuned bike. In-gear acceleration, out right WOT, over stock is just so visible youd have to be blind as well as stupid do disavow the claims. This is a beginning to a series of regular if not daily replies. Watch this space for more . This is my review, and my RideLog

    Feb 14

Valentines Day, took my special someone for a trip to Mudhliar Kuppam near Pondycherry and was absolutely loving the low end power. She (the bike :P) felt a bit off, like she wasn't as responsive as before. So after the Midday ride I pottered off to my friends house on the OMR as there was a nice stretch of tarmac nearby and would be good for tuning the bike. Got on the phone with Joel, sent a few pics and was determined that going up a needle adjustment I.E - going richer would be the remedy. So I put the phone down and got to work and reassembled and took the bike for a ride and DAMN.

^Image of spark plug shows the perfect burn.
This is how she should have been in the first place :P, She pulled 0-100 high 7 seconds, and a top whack of 157 speedo indicated, NIRVANA! the bike purred like a kitten, the richer setting made her slightly smoother and power delivery is sort of like a turbo lag affected bike. 1.2-2.7K rpm shes a bit sluggish but at 3k rpm she opens up and totally warps my fragile mind. This indicates a sort of overly rich low low end, but she rights herself where it matters I.E mid and top end, and for me thats perfect coz Im 90% at that point in the Rev Range.

I still haven't fixed the clutch and I really should get down to doing it. But havent had anytime to do the same. and yes above figures are with a buggered clutch .

Guess I paid for the wrong bike (200ns)
Can you post a reliable source like ulysse speedometer screenshot. .?
As a duke 390 even takes 5.5sec+ to do 0-100 ,and you're 0-100 230cc pulsar is doing it in just 7 seconds. .!!

Good to see your ride back in action after the clutch thing.
Hope to see and hear some good results. Not complaining: it would be better if you can post the pic of the head closely so we can see how the head had been done and the butterfly carb too.
Mid compression? Please can you ask Joel to give the specific compression detail on how much the compression has increased.

Planet DSG pune, PRS mumbai and Motozone Pune, all of them have EBC brle pads.
Mine is 275 PSI, thats not the Compression, ask him to check and provide how he has changed the compression ratio.
I have been asking this ques to him since last two years and still no answer.

Thats what I have been asking him since last one year, how can it be so High?? I dont have a source for aviation fuel here, normal petrol and so much compression??
Yeah it used to knock at high RPMs and top end was slightly noisey.

Hmm weird, mine is like 11-11.5:1 so pretty good and fuelling is perfect as well so no knocking or pinging and its pretty cool while running, did you recheck the compression? Aur noisey at the topend meaning?
