^ completely agree.
i dont think stolen bikes get to enter service centres and the like. they would be serviced at local garages at half the price or sold in scrap value at market.
i see this move more as a pain for the good ones.

I'm from Mumbai and yeah even I have a smart card instead of the book..makes it very easy to carry around..both my papers and my license are in smartcard form. Anyways like I said its nice to know such a requirement exists although I don't see it having any impact as such in terms of nabbing stolen bikes.

i opted for smart card and i got it pretty early, in Delhi! there is no option of smart card here

If you permit i want to tell a bad/funny incident.
I had a CBZ* 2004 i had purchased it on a 1 year finance scheme. In 2008 when i was about to sell my bike i noticed that i had not got the hypothecation removed from the RC. I took the noc from the financer. I gave it to my RTO agent he got the hypothecation cancelled from the RC.
After a few days i lost my RC.
For the new RC i made a police report and all the fomalities were completed. I got the new RC without the Hypothecation cancelled. On enquiring i found out that the hypothecation was manually cancelled in the RTO office and computer records stated that HYP. is not cancelled.
Then i had to search the records of my bike myself in the office. where we found that the records of my bike were missing. Further findings indicated that an old suspended Babu has some of the records which were at last not found. I had to get the new noc and the process was completed again and the Hypothecation was cancelled i was able to sell my bike.

Yes, atleast I have got the bike registered from the showroom itself and didn't really bother to visit the RTO office. A little busy schedule played spoilsport in the RTO office visit!

All of you who think it takes 45 days to get the RC book, you have never visited the RTO's office. It does not even take a full day to get the RC if the peoplein the RTO office are in a mood of working.
Tell me if i guess right you all have got your bikes registered from the showroom guys itself.

I guess it is a good thing to implement. Let us not criticize how well it works but it would help at least in a few instances and we can possibly feel secure...

see, I sometimes scold the security guards of my apartment complex for not stopping me or my visitors... when they stop me, I feel a sense of security for living in that complex!

I believe in most of the cities (if not all), it takes about 45 days for the RC. So, that is not really case specific. Even here, in the National Capital, one needs to wait atleast 45 days for the RC.

yeah what city, cuz my first service is due in a week, and RC book takes 45 days here in Bangalore to come! pathetic!

Which city are you from? In Delhi, I haven't seen this 'rule' implemented yet though.
