Default Conical AirFilters Vs. AirBox Airfilters? Which one is better for Duke 200?

    Hello Guys,

I wanted to change my air-filter on my D200 and I'm caught up between Conical and Air-Box . The stock is AirBox type. I've read in some forums than conical air-filters increase the airflow more than Airbox but I couldn't find anywhere what modifications are required in a FI bike like Duke or something similar. Will replacing the stock airbox result any significant change in performance without harming the engine? And will I have to make any modification to my bike for attaching a conical filter? Thanks in advance.

    Approved!
Stay stock. Gains are negligible. Problems in the long term are more.

Totally agree with our Mod. Stock rocks!

And the best way to extract performance is an optimum FFE+Air filter+Remapped ECU combination. Air filters alone don't make much of a difference.

Still if you want to go for aftermarket air filters, AFAIK stock replacement ones are the best. Conical ones wear out faster and are more prone to dust and damage.
Experts here can correct me if I am wrong.

True. But performance mods + long term reliability (Ala stock system with similar maintenance) don't go well together.

Thanks Guys. will stick with stock but im still inquisitive about how much will i gain, although negligible. i was also thinking about an ECU remap so will a conical filter coupled with remap do wonders?

For 'wonders' only higher cc bikes would do.

And in our smaller bikes, to gain over stock performance, you would need FFE, performance filters and ECU remaps. But then again, the gains are not very much. Maybe slightly better acc. or topend, but nothing to be called 'wonders'.

Also, forget about conical filters. They would only harm the engine.

    Ride safe and have fun.

either of the air filter will increase air flow if the surface area is bigger than other.. above that to completely utilize the more air flow you would need a revised inlet port and remapped ECU running closed loop with an FFE.. you are looking at something like 30k-50k investment for genuine good mods..

30-50k mods for a 1.5 Lakh bike ???? think bout it again... 30 percent value of the bike which will be of no use when you sell it and even in city where you cant touch more than 80kmph.. giving just over 2-3hp bump and might shave half a second in 0-100 timings....

on highways either way even if you are able to do a 150kmph .. how long will you hold it ?? and all this at reduced reliability of vehicle added with lack of expert motorcycle tuners in india...

take your call.. my advise.. stick to stock.. at least for Indian terrain a top speed of 120 kmph is more than needed... 80-100 is what you are looking for everyday highway cruise...
if you still want to go for mods..

    go with OEM replacement filters..
    multipoint spark plugs..
    remapped ECU and a FFE..
    better riding skills..
    and a well maintained ride...
