Default Tips for newbies about performance mods

The quality of the content in the Help Me section is deterioriating day by day.
Every day i log in just to see there are so many queries for K&N free flow air filters, jetting of carburettors, NGK Iriduim spark plugs and even the Maxspeed/Spitfire cables and boosting performance of their bikes using these mods. Some go far and expect bumps in the BHP figures from these mods.

    Points to remember:
1.A free flow air filter is not going to give you any noticeable bumps in performance.

2.Without upjetting you are going to make a big mess out of your engine because of the lean mixture.

3.Upjetting is a must and you cannot avoid that to keep Fuel Efficiency.Heck if you care so much about the FE, don't go for any performance mods. Each mod will surely reduce FE.

4.NGK Iridium spark plugs do not increase acceleration. They just make sure that the fuel is burnt at the right time with the right spark.
newbies please do not expect that you will see a massive increase in acceleration and/or FE.
NGK plugs improve the throttle response and also helps overcome the problems of cold starts but not bumping up the acceleration.

5.Spitfire cables are all show and no go.They don't cause any difference in the quality of spark produced. The stock wiring for the spark plug is decent enough to handle the amount of current required to produce a good spark.

Planning to install these in your bike and expecting puny lil kristals to touch 100+ speeds is totally insane. No pulsar is going to smoke a r15 just because of these mods.

Please people stop bringing content from Orkut over here.
It is Orkut where people claim that these mods have made a Ninja out of my puny lil pulsar!

Performance modding is a very complicated thing. We have our expert tuners[look at the grin on Joel's face] over here who have spent almost half their lives understanding and modding
engines to get max output. It is not that simple guys. Bolting on some shitty hardware is not going to make your bike any faster.

I understand that the people who ask questions are new to bikes and all.

I request all the people who have questions regarding all such mods to search the forum. Enough discussions have been posted on these mods and experts have given their opinions.

Aryan Da if you find this post useful, edit it as per your wish, and if you want, make it sticky so that everyone reads it.

@Pavanchirmade - Bugger, u had to pick my name eh

Good list of ideas for newbies man.
    A few more pointers,
    * Any freeflow exhaust does not work. So avoid non-tuned pipes. You'll only get slower.
    * Avoid these cheap spark wires, coils etc coz they are not meant to work with your engine. Stock works best unless you know what you are doing.
    * Overboring an engine does not give you more power at peak. Its a different ball game altogether. Leave it stock.
    * Changing the carb size without knowing what flow your engine demands, is another way of going slower.
    * I've some electric chinese gizmos being sold. Electric turbo and what not. How I wish tuning was indeed that easy
    * Going for tyres which are of higher profile than stock does not necessarily increase grip levels. Do the right homework.

I know a friend in Orkut who made is Pulsar a Ninja 250 , and my friends have seen it really.... yes its true

Ok, Jokes apart, I know a rats rear about how to open an engine... but I am confident.

Confident that if I ever open an engine, I would never be able to close it myself. Which is why I try to learn a lot of theory here, have a look at some YouTube Videos (they are Gods gift after Google) and then finally, head to the SVC, try and not bug the mechanic there, but still 'help' him in 'his' work and in the bargain, get to learn some stuff and do some stuff that you learnt... ofcourse not an elegant way, but atleast am trying!

    (I) Dont expect me to post a lot on this thread, but am sure all eyes and ear on this one..

    God Bless!
PS: Anybody has the R15 service manuals yet

    Edit:

any mech who tells you to make your exhaust free flow by just making it empty . that is pure BS .

    IMO keep your engine stock
aftermarket filters and re-jetting is OK but needs to be done properly

even after some insane tuning how much power can one get ? 21bhp ? even if we make it 25 bhp ! it wont be worth the time , money and pains undertaken .
it works for speed-runs etc but not as a daily drive . this aint japan .

    And
the smallest turbocharger IHI RHB31 can be installed on any indian bike(150-220cc) but will need upgraded custom internals , custom housings etc

but a bike if turboed will be truly insane
