Top tuners use this method. If you want to really spend some money, you may do so by buying a thermal gun. The engine oil temperature might not accurately tell you how hot your engine is. I stick to the water droplet/spit on the head method as it is simple yet effective enough.

One of the best ways to find out whether the engine is overheating is to look into the tachometer. If the engine RPM is above the normal levels, it shows that the engine is overheating.

(This is not the only way !)

GUYS, i guess i went in for the wrong type of guage.... the fitting of the guage on the cylinder head is very difficult so i had to ditch the measurement of the temp while the bike was moving....

also, even when it is not moving, the rtd does not have much contact with the fins fo the head so i guess i wil have to change the temperature measurement guage....

can anyone tell where in pune, i can get the infrared temperature guage??? or its approximate cost????

or if anyone knows any such guage ( which is being used on any other bike ), please let me know......

In Pune, Chinmay Dangre(corepower performance, Nigdi) has one. He's a member here. PM him. He will help you out if you but I guess you need to take your bike to his workshop.

    Default P180 UG3 overheating

so I tried this splashing water technique today... after riding for around an hour in pretty heavy traffic I stopped the bike and splashed a handful of water on the engine head... it instantly bubbled and made a hissing sound... so I guess that means the test is positive and my bike is overheating? I know I sound like an idiot for asking that question but I took the bike to the service station twice already and they apparently changed some tappet settings and said the bike was fine, and also there is no overheating light or burning smell coming from the engine...the only thing that is alerting me to the problem is lot of heat on my right foot and leg... its like my foot is baking.

BTW I'm using motul 5100( 15w50) engine oil and i just checked the levels a few days ago... also the fuel tank remains cool during riding... there is smoke coming from the exhaust...
