Default Engine oil leaking from the Engine Head Valve cover.

Engine oil leaking from the Engine Head Valve cover.

Hi my bike is HH Hunk and its about 2.5 years old and its has just crossed 10k KM. But in-between these years yesterday I 1st saw that the Engine oil leaking from the Engine Head Valve cover. However its not leaking it’s the oil is slowly seeping throughout all over the Engine Head Valve cover gasket area. The gasket is made by rubber. And I noticed it after a long run (80km) with 50-70kmph average speed.

Very recently I’ve changed the oil, can it cause by excessive oil inside the engine?

What would be the best way now?

Shall I remove the valve cover and re-tight again with the old rubber gasket?

Or shall I replace the gasket with a new one?

Is it common to leaking oil from the valve head gasket?

Need expert’s advice. Thanks in advance!

bro... I dont have an answer to it.... but keep checking your engine oil level at regular intervals. And if it is dropping unusually, take it to a trusted knowledgeable mech /SVC.

Even i have seen many CBZ xtremes and Hunks with oil leaking from heads.AFAIK this may be caused due to some busted oil seal or loosened screws(i don't know what is it called exactly) which tighten the head and the valve cover due to worn out threads.Do check the same with some HH guys get

2.5 years are enough for the gasket. Change it. Alternatively, since its the head cover, you can even use liquid gasket.

What's the color of your spark plug? Could you post some pics pls? Also is there a smoke coming out of the exhaust? If so, what's the color? Black or white?

I had this on my zma, there are two nuts on top of engine is oil leaking from there? I changed the o-ring in the nut, simple and cheap job. I think first you should try this before attempting anything more drastic. Mechs i guess will tell you it is something severe but i think you should do this first and try to get it done in front of you. Post a pic of the leakage for members to help you better.

1st thing to do is replace the gasket.....it doesn't cost anything......2nd thing try to find out why it happened....normally gaskets don't leak on its own....either some nut has gone loose or threads on cylinder head bolts have weared off...

@aargee - liquid gasket is the same as engine sealant or Anabond or whatever its called.

@soumen - I suggest you replace the o-type washers below the head cover bolts, and the gasket ( after cleaning the two surfaces ( head cover bottom side, and head topside ) properly ). That should help fix the issue.

1st thank you all for your valuable inputs. The oil is seeping only around the valve cover gasket area. As indicated on the image. Its not leacking from any bolts etc. At the 1st sight I thought its due to excessive oil level, so quickly take out some 50ml oil. As I change oil at every 2k km and check oil level regularly so I had no other concerns.

@pavanchirmade is its true that 2.5 years are enough for the gasket? I never heard that before and the particular gasket I’m talking about is made by rubber, not like regular engine component gasket. And read somewhere that time by time the rubber gusket get harder due to heat so it breaks. But I saw mine by pussing finger nails adt its soft enough like other rubber compounds.

@aargee Liquied gasker are known as engine sealent.

However I suspect that its due to the loosen bolts as the oil is seeping from throught the area, not from a particular place and also the gasket is soft enough. But my ultimate question is can excess oil level cause damage of the Valve Cover gasket? And is it ok if I dis assemble it and fit it again with the same rubber gusket?
