Today, I checked again and the spark plug color was brown and didn't see any black smoke. I am really confused now. How could this be an intermittent issue? Also, the kick is not very hard but just a bit the first time during cold start but the bike starts in first kick itself without using throttle or choke. After that, the kick is smooth. Even the self starter issue that I mentioned didn't come up today.

Also, I use reserve to reserve method to check mileage. I know it's not very accurate but the difference I am getting now is large. Earlier, the bike would clock 90+ Kms in just 1.5 ltrs of fuel before hitting reserver but now, its just 65-70 kms. Thats a difference of 20+ kms

Thats a 60 kmpl of mileage. If u slightly lean your mixture then u can get more. But excess lean mixture will heat up the engine more.

Right. But I don't think I should make it leaner since the color of the spark plug is brown and making it leaner will lead to engine overheating issues. I guess the carb is tuned to its most optimum settings. Also, even if I make it leaner, it will only make a difference of a few more Kms in the mileage as I can't make it lean enough as its already on its optimum settings. The cause of the issue seems to be something else. My concern is that earlier, with optimum air-fuel mixture, I was getting a mileage 60 and sometimes even more than that. But now, I am getting a mileage of 45-46 only. I have checked spark plug, air filter, wheel bearings, movement of wheels and chain but nothing seems to be the cause of the issue here and I am really confused as there are no other symptoms apart from this low mileage. Is there anything else that I should check?
Very thankful to you for the time you take out to help me. I really appreciate it.

u said u went 90 kms on 1.5 liter of fuel, then it means 60 kmpl. Check again 2-3 times and report back. As per my experience Indian Oil gives the best fuel, try filling from there. Instead of filling for Rs.150 or 200 try filling with only for 50 for several times.
To calculate the mileage try this formula.
(Different in kms (reserve to reserve) / The amount of fuel u filled in rupees) X Cost of Petrol/liter in Rupees
The result u'll get is your mileage in kmpl.

Thanks for writing back Paul. Yes, it was 60 a few months ago when I had not gone for the trip to Kasauli. But after coming back from there, bike only goes till 60-65 kms before hitting reserve in the same 1.5 ltrs of fuel which is just ~45 kmpl and this is bothering me.
I use the same method that you have mentioned i.e. (Difference in kms (reserve to reserve)/ Fuel filled in litres)
I have also tried all the fuel stations like Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, HP etc but the same result.

Sorry for coming back late. I feel you are in different riding conditions now than before. Or something happened from the ride, to-from kasauli. I'd suggest, just ride it like that for sometime, i mean for next 1000 or 2000kms, don't stick to same rpm or speed keep it varying (like run-in) but you can rev it freely. If engine has glazed, then it should free it a little. Additionally you can run with any petrol additive (which cleans engine top end & fueling system) and a little costlier alternative to petrol additive it branded fuels. And I have also seen few vehicles getting better with tappet adjustment. Just make sure, work done is top notch.

@Honda_CBF: Thanks buddy for writing back. As per pavanchirmade's advice, I checked the tire movement and the front wheel was not moving freely. The disk pads were rubbing against the disk. After getting that rectified, I got mileage of 53 this time so that helped. But I am still not getting 60+ which I used to get earlier. I will now try your idea and post the update. By the way, for how long should I use premium fuel (will use XtraPremium or Speed as it is easily available) ? I don't want to use it for lifetime as it is very expensive . Also, I am planning a trip again in the end of November to Himachal on my Stunner and don't know how it is going to perform this time. Earlier, on the Kasauli trip, I got mileage of 55 which is quite impressive as the RPM keeps changing on hilly areas.

premium fuels are always available within city limits, (my preference is xtrapremium, slight difference is noticeable) just be sure of authenticity of fueling stations. But they are ridiculously expensive these days that's why I also stated about off shelf petrol additives, which is cheaper. Use them for around a 1000kms. [Note: there won't be any instant results and stay away from octain boosters, they are just waste of money] . Also, use 20w40 oil for year long, except in winters where I'd recommend 10w40. 10w30 is only suitable if one's riding for very low distances.

Thanks for your advice. I will now start use XtraPremium for my Stunner for around 1000 kms and post the results. Right now, I am using Castrol Activ 4T 20w40 but didn't like it. The bike becomes very harsh after 50 kmph. I used Honda engine oil 10w30 when went on Kasauli trip. But now I have purchased Petronas Sprinta 4T 4000 and going to put it soon. Do you think I should take my bike for another trip which should be around 1200 Kms that I am planning by the end of November? I don't think there should be any problem but just want to know what you think

    Thanks buddy and Happy Diwali!!!
