Re: Converting Spoked Wheels into Tubeless??
Any long term reviews on outex? Considering it after a flat on a long ride

Re: Converting Spoked Wheels into Tubeless??
Not sure how to get that particular bit info & the part of US bound Conti GTs!!!
Anyway some bit of my research led me to this... Tubeless Conversion Kit which looks like another take on Tubeless spoked wheels! albeit the caveat being the rims has to specific to the their standards or buy the whole set.
I'm trying to search if I can get my hands on a tubeless spoked wheel locally since sizing etc will be a huge challenge.
Else I'm right now kinda fixed on the Outex vs complete alloys! & alloys is seemingly cheaper atleast the regular ones which thunderbird people use!

I think the Continental in US comes with tubeless wire wheels. Check if you can get those.

Re: Converting Spoked Wheels into Tubeless??
Apart from what monk mentioned... having nicely finished aluminium rims it pains me to see dings & dimples on it when the Puncture-wala put it thru those steel levers to pry the tyre out - which if you're unlucky to have a Tubless type tyre like the Perelli SD then it hurts even more as the sidewalls of such tyres are tougher & need brute force so there's a good chance of bending your rims if one is not careful.
As for rim strength - yes not every spoked wheel can be turned to tubeless, but again since my wheels came with Perelli SD from the factory, albeit with a tube inside; the rims are definitely made to bare the strain of tough side wall.
Can someone point me out to the shop & the locally available kit! will be helpful. But looking at the cost I'm a leaning to changing to alloy wheels instead. But I've personally experienced the advantage a spoke wheel has to offer in the last week where I rode the bike for nearly 2 weeks with a broken spoke... which is unimaginable with an alloy! So want to have best of both worlds.

OK, from above, article I have understood about sealing the spoke nipples and TL valve. But can somebody confirm regarding the "rim lips" as i had mentioned in my previous post. In the attached article, they call it "safety beads" in the rim. Does RE Classic 500 rim comes with this safety bead?
I think Conti GT rim should have this safety beading in place already, because they are using PSD tyre, which are already TL tyre, eventhough they are using with tube.

Your tyre not blowing up while riding can be the difference between life and death. Is that cost worth it? You decide
Other advantages-
You can ride to the nearest tyre repair shop with the decreasing air pressure on a TL, but on a TT you will be stranded and have to conduct repairs there itself.
Also, during high speed long distance runs, the tube tends to rub against the tyre, the friction causes excessive heat buildup and in some cases a blowout. TL has no tube to rub or blowThe last sentence was not intended, just happened!!!

If you can get hold of an adheseve that bonds to metal, like the ones used for boats and tankers, rest is very easy to do. Just seal off the well of the rim, use a valve used in pressure pumps, n put on the tubeless.

Anyway, there is a guy in Tbhp who converted his Triumph Tiger 800 from tube to tubeless for spoke rims. he bought from biking spirit in bangalore for 13500 bucks, there is a tape and tubeless valve included in the kit.
I am however also worried about not only the sealing of spokes, but also about the outer lips of the rim, which hold the tubeless tyre wall. For specific tubeless type rim, i understand the lip of the rim would be deeper, to hold the stronger tubeless tyre wall. I mean, if I'm running tubeless on my normal spoke wheels, what if it causes the tubeless tyre wall to jump out, or, loose pressure during cornering, or something like that?
I would never touch with a barge pole the e-bay alloy rims from some shop in Punjab, however, after seeing the condition of OEM rims in our roads (remember Bajaj RS 200).

Query Approved
AFAIK the export versions get Tubeless spoked wheels. Check with RE once before proceeding with aftermarkets.

Converting Spoked Wheels into Tubeless??
After my recent experience with a flat on the GT & the issues with getting the tyres off the rim without damaging or scratching the Aluminium rims I've thought long & hard of changing my wheels to alloys to have the benefit of Tubeless Tyres. But no matter how hard I try to convince myself I just cannot bear the looks of my Bike with alloy wheels not even those Harley types.
While that decision is still egging on, I've heard & read of converting the spoked wheels to accept tubeless tyres either thru DIY or professionally available kits, but all of them were from outside of india.
Has anyone here tried any such process?? Coz I see that expensive adventure bikes like Triumph Tiger etc come with spoked wheels.
Also once such process is done (basically sealing off the little gaps in spoke holes) are the spokes still free to move around for truing the wheels? or replacing incase of breakage. And is it reversible?
Has anyone tried a DIY in this space?Tags: None
