Icon4 Honda CB Trigger engine start problem

Hello everyone, I am new to biking. But my passion is growing. I love traveling and has done a bit as well. The problem that I am facing is that the bike doesn't start sometimes with the kick starter becoming completely compressionless or free. The bike is a Honda CB Trigger. Trying after many attempts using the choke, the bike turns on. Why is this happening? Usually happened in the evening after using the bike to commute to my workplace and when returning in the evening the problem occurs. Thrice it has happened. I an using Honda engine oil and a friend told to wash the engine to free the carbon. What can be the problem?? Thank you!!

    Topic Approved.

When you're trying to start the bike, do you start by pressing clutch lever when the bike is in gear? Let me state that some bikes may start this way, but not all...
Moreover, choke is needed in the morning, but not using can't make kick lever compression-less. Is your a self start bike? Does it start with self start in morning after choke?

Washing the engine might not help, nor does it remove carbon from its internals... Your friend mentioned a confusing statement which doesn't connect... Try getting more details from him.

My friend is having the same issue with his Unicorn. Whenever this happens, He will push the bike in 2nd or 3rd gear for a 1-1.5 meters. Then the kick lever will become fine for start (Compression will come back). This is the advice got from his mechanic. As per him this is a problem with valves, its' getting stuck in some position. Usually this is happening when riding higher gear in lower speed.

I was remembering my case when I was on a unicorn. Well what my mechanic did he opened the spark plug and pour some oil in there. The problem was solved but when it again happened I went and got the new valves put. And the problem disappeared permanently. It is the valves that have the problem because of the petrol we get. Don't worry your half engine will be opened nothing to worry. All your problem will be solved.

You might need a head lapping (thats what they call it). I have faced this exact issue with a honda shine that i used temporarily and also with another Honda bike in family.

It has something to do with too much of carbon deposit obstructing the valves and piston head affecting the overall compression. Now that you too mentioned it, it seems like a known issue because when my bike suffered this (the bike functioned absolutely normal at other times and was regularly serviced) the local mechanic as well as the honda tech immediately asked me for a head lapping, of course i went with the ASC to get it done.

It doesnt cost much and minimally invasive procedure

Head and tappet adjustment is required...that's not a big issue...adjustment is required for everybikes after certain kms.

I am also faced this issue in my CB Trigger before 4 months(now 43000 kms covered). Mechanic told that it is due to carbon deposit in valves and it's seating, and he suggest me to add 50 ml of 2t oil with full tank of petrol (not need to do so in every filling). After doing so and running few hundreds of kilometers the problem solved and still running perfectly.
