  • Performance mods for my classic Pulsar 180.

    Hello all,
I have a 7 year old classic Pulsar 180 which I've managed to keep in fairly good condition. Was planning to upgrade to a bigger bike but with nothing in the horizon I've decided to add performance mods to the bike.

Can you please help me with the possibilities? These are the areas I am thinking about:

    1. Engine
    2. Brakes: Good stopping power (bigger front discs or pads)
    3. Sprocketing
    3. Tires: And lastly the tires, to handle the higher (I hope) power.

What are my options? I am not at all a technical person though I do some DIY maintenance.

Since I am from Bombay would appreciate if you could tell me a reliable outlet that would get the job done.

    Thanks,
    Hiren

I too have a 7 year old P180 Classic. Perhaps, the options people give here could help me with my machine too!

Good to know that , I will post pictures of my bike later on in the day.
I've done a few changes to it a few years ago (UG3's swingarm, rear suspension and alloys).

          Till then...

try that link its got some ideas about the 180 v1 . DTSI though..

hmm.. i had this lingering thought. can the clip-on handles of the 220 be fit on the normal pulsars ??

            cheers

hey!! mine is 6 year old 180 v1..
just got an engine overhaul done,,new chain set and gonna put some new tires now.

I was thinking of extending its swingarm and rear suspention to a one from dtsi...suspention on v1 is pathetic and scary if ur a cornering type of rider.

                  hmmm,nice bike

                  wow.that's a cute looking pulsar,
minimal but effective, alloys look good, nox and swing from dtsi already in place,
a round headlamp is always a treat to watch........
as far as performance mods concern try upgrading to 200cc kit,
dont go for k&n and spark plug stuff..
how ever a programmable cdi can yield some more top speed.
stock brakes and tyres can easily the power gain(it wont be much though),try changing em later as they will only add more expanses...
ps.and dont change the headlamp..it looks really good

hey bro looks great.. now thats a well maintained classic pulsar.

                    keep it same.

i suggest dont ever go for any kind of heavy cosmetic mods. it will just ruin the appeal.

                    go for the 200 kit.

although the change is not very huge there is a good change and it feels good.

do not the change the silencer for any dubba cans.. unless they are good ones from like KRP tectrac or automech...

NGK plugs are good but you dont get the performance that you expect with those. they just help in a better combustion mainly for larger capacity engines.

I personally have a K&N . its good ONLY for the sound. With which i am really happy but the reality being i have to clean my carb regularly.

i am still doin research on the handle bars . the after market ones are ok but not all that comfortable. i had a bad experiance of mine breaking off while i was riding !! had to tie it up with a cloth and went to the nearest mech.

If the 220 clip ons can be done i guess that would be good . does any one know if that can be done on the conventional 180/150's ??

                    cheers

they are not retrofit. 200,220 use fatter forks...
                      anybody tried ??

Jus because the discussion is regarding a classic pulsar,i hav a query.

I just love the classic pulsar's exhaust and also the exhaust note. is there any chance that i can get it installed to my ug3? i plan to use just the silencer. not the whole pipe. coz the older one didnt hav TEC.

Any suggestions? Will it f^^k up the engine?

afaik old silencers can be used on new pulsars, and wont harm the engine, seen a lot o ppl removing that resonant chamber thingy to add some more grunt.
even the first generation dtsi used silencers without tec.
i own a classic and have used both, the older sounds better then newer ones.

                              Thanks Insane!
I agree, the round headlamp looks best never quite liked the faired headlamps of later Pulsars.

This is the first time I am hearing about the 200cc kit, will ask my mechanic if he can do it.
The tires will be the last ones to the changed (I recently got my bike a new set of tires, both front and rear).

                              Regards
