Smile What to do with my Unicorn

Hi all, I am a newbie here and this is my first post. I have a 2007 December model Honda Unicorn. Last week,I met with a minor accident,i.e., I hit the back side of a lorry. So,the front head light and the speedometer got damaged..I am thinking of replacing the headlight and meter. So i bought the shield and visor of the headlamp... I am thinking of fixing Apache RTR digital speedometer. What do you think about this?

My second doubt is with Engine filters. One of my friends asked me to install some sort of engine filters. He said that it will cost around Rs.800 to 1700/- .He said that installing such filters will increase the power. What type of filter is that and what is its use. Will it decrease my mileage.?

1)Do you suggest fitting Apache's digital speedometer?
2)Do you suggest fitting an engine filter? What type of filter do you suggest and its cost?

I dont think there's a Engine Filter .your friend might be talking about an Air filter from K&N , with putting it and upjetting you can get a little power increase

there are ways to make it work i too thought of the same but got fedup with the info wat i have collected

first the wiring kit need to be changed

second the speedo wire need to be a 18" wheel spec calibrated

than the batt to should support the meter & elec available...

pls check the same with any body who this well (regarding digital speedo in place of analog speedo) logically speaking there should not be any change required for elec wiring other than the speedo 18" wire.........

@ dream horse - Recieved your PM. Here is the reply.

The speedo on the unicorn is analog one - it uses a steel wire connected to a mechanical device (the speedometer) to display the speed. This steel wire rotates along with the wheel and this rotation is transmitted up to the speedo which displays speed by moving the needle accordingly. So as you see this is a totally mechanical device.

Now, in case of an electrical speedo as in case of the RTR, there are two seperate devices. The wheel sensor detects wheel rotation and generates an electrical signal. This signal is fed to the speedo which displays the speed on the LCD.

If you want to convert the speedo on the unicorn, you will need to feed a digital signal to the RTR speedo. From where will you get this signal as the unicorn which uses an analog speedo and does not generate this signal? You will need the apache wheel sensor. Now that wheel sensor will not fit on the unicorn and even if it fits, will be calbrated for 17'' wheels and not 18'' as on your bike.

If you can solve this problem, then, other things are simple.

In short, it is impossible unless you get the required knowledge.

i will suggest you don't go for digital metr .. you'll have to do a lot of mess and then too it will give you problems more often .. you better go for hunk's analog meter .. it looks gud .. and for the filter .. you can go for K&N R-1060 .. and along with it .. change Main jet to 20 digits higher to increase your bike's performance. If you alone fit the filter without upjetting (changing main jet) .. you'll loose some performance but gain milege .
