Hi Everyone,
Please help in solving the starting issue in my R15.. So far the bike has done around 25K kms. The starting issue started in the last 4 months.. The symptom is that the bike would crank but wont start..
Before going in details of the issue, let me pen down a tale of events which have happened in the past few months..

My bike had become very rough and had a lot of vibrations when it's close to 18K kms on odo and at this point I took it to a mechanic(a very good n intelligent fellow), actually he's a rich guy who's into bikes and hence has a garage. He tells me that the piston has gone( i too agree) and hence needs to be replaced. So we go for a re-bore and put in a slightly larger piston.

After re-bore, she is on the second running in phase, and one fine morning she wont start. I crank for couple of times more , but in vain. Upon checking, we find that the spark plug(NGK which has done around 8K) has gone. It's replaced promptly.
Couple of days after she wont start again, but after some tries, she fires up with a bluish white smoke and a sweet smell.. we come to an understanding that the coolant is getting into the cylinder and on further investigation, we find the head gasket is the culprit. It's replaced and that issue is solved..

Another one week goes by and in a signal, I switch off the bike and later on she wont start but just cranks.. Embarrassed in front of the public, I somehow pushes the bike from the signal, get a help to push start the bike and take it to the mechanic. Now our eyes falls on the battery n feels that it's not able to give enough juice for the engine to start.. So we do a load test n find that the battery is nearing it's life.. Anyways the same battery is charged for the time being( Me becoming a miser in that moment).. With charged battery, she starts after couple of tries( the cylinder was overfilled with the petrol since the FI keeps on injecting petrol with each try..), with lot of petrol smell...

Very soon she is having the same symptom plus the over heat light also comes up.. We notice that the fan is not switching on and off properly (of course relay everything is fine) and at this point I agree to replace the battery.. We replace the battery with a new one(got one after much waiting) charge it and in one crank, she is up and running.. also the fan works normally and also no high temp light..

Oh yes, some where along this chain of events, another plug gets fried..

With new battery, she runs for around 2K(but no long run as I's not confident any more) ... Alas last Friday, she wont start again (but cranks) after a ride from my office.. I wait till the next morning, get the spark plug changed with a new one, tries to start her.. But by this time the cylinder is overfilled and push starting also don't work.. I keep on cranking her (not continuous) and by the time the signs of life comes in, battery has no juice left.. I put the battery for a quick charge and tries to start after removing the fuel hose temporarily for not letting more fuel in.. Bike starts again after few tries.. I keep it for idling for half an hour.. By evening i take her for a ride and on return journey, same issue.. I some how make it my house and next morning when I try again, same scenario..;(

One thing I have missed out saying is that, I have been running with Philips hid since 5K on the odo.. Now that I'm Chennai and the salinity in the atmosphere is high, the ballast casing is got a lot of rust..


I sincerely ask all my fellow Xbhpians to help me out.. I 'm short of ideas and unable to find a reason for this weird issue... Now that almost all starting related things are new, I don't get the reason for this issue..

Could it be the HID(this what the mechanic says) or something else. If it's the hid, when this issue all of a sudden after running on the hid setup over a year and a half...

I have tried my level best to explain the issues I faced so far, if anyone needs any further clarification,please ask me... I just need to solve this issue once for all....
